This was a good place to idly watch the different crafts and have a cup of tea. I imagine it is lovely in the summer. The gallery is interesting with a range of handicrafts and Josh is a true artist and performer who is passionate about his art.

Visit this interesting historic 400 year old university with cafè and traditional Turkish cultural arts you can observe or take part. Attached to the Medresse on the street is a Gallery where you can find examples of local artists work for sale and Josh wıll give you a demonstration or Ebru ( traditional Turkish marbling) a very interesting place right in the middle of the old city area.

In this hidden and calm street you will find a area filled with Turkish culture, and the atmosphere here is amazing. Me and my film-crew went here and met Josh. He is a great and kind Ebru-artist that showed us the possess of this craft, and we made a little film about him and Ebru painting.
I'll let the film speak for itself, so please watch it by with this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNLAhWx-fDA&list=UUABDakow3ktGYGdfQ2OzK2A

Our group of 6 ate lunch here and afterwards had an art class in ebru painting with Coskun Ozunkaya. It was the best lunch we had in Istanbul. Not only was the food good, but the environment is a peaceful escape from the heavy tourist traffic. The ebru lesson with Coskun was amazing. He is a a brilliant artist, a patient teacher and a wonderful ambassador for Turkey and the arts. Three of our group took the class and for all three is was one of the highlights of our stay in Istanbul. If you have an interest in the arts, this 1000 year old tradition of Turkish marbling is not to be missed!

Hidden between the Hagia Sophia and the Basilica Cisterns is this 16th century oasis for artisans built by Sinan. The original dorms are now studios/ galleries surrounding a courtyard where you can escape for a quiet glass of tea. The quality of the Turkish crafts exceeds what you will find at the Bazaar. And the gallery at street side run by Coşkun Uzunkaya (Josh) is amazing and full of unique art and treasures.

This was our second visit in five years, and the thrill and joy in visiting this Madrasa this time was even greater. Josh, as an accomplished artist in his own right, makes everyone not just feel welcomed but part of his family. We will be back again the next time we find ourselves in Istanbul.
