July 27 2012: Was suggested the Legend by Hotel Information in Istanbul Airport. Am very happy with the suggestion. The reception people are very good and helped me a lot communicating a complaint to Turkish Airlines where the preferred language apparently is Turkish - which is not my preferred language. Next I's happy to find that it's just about 500m from central Sultanahmet Square. A good home away from home!

From July 05, 2012, till July 13, 2012, my wife and I stayed at the Legend Hotel, Old City, Istanbul, Turkey. First and foremost, the staff was professional, courteous, and eager to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Although we have stayed in nicer hotels, what this place lacked in amenities was made up with service, location, and views from the rooftop terrace.

Upon arrival, we took a taxi from the airport to the hotel at a cost of about 35 TL. Check in was quick and the manager spoke good english (as did all the different shift personal). Our bags were taken to our room via the elevator (which went to the third floor only), which was nice since we were both weary from travel. Once inside the room, we found it to a bit dated, and smaller then we anticipated, but clean, comfortable, and inviting. A color television with Turkish channels was available, and the only english speaking channel was the BBC. Also included in the room was ample closet and drawer space for personal belongings, a safe for valuables, hair dryer, soap and shampoo. As for the bed, it was a queen size,non-pillow top that was a bit firm, but overall very comfortable. Although the decor was dated, that added to the mystic, and gave a unique feel as to where you were at.

Taking the spiral stair case to the fourth floor opened up to the dining area where breakfast was served daily from 7 AM till 10 AM. Coffee, tea, juice, milk, cereal, fruit, cheese, boiled eggs, olives, and bread was served buffet style and did not change. As for the dining area itself, it was clean and bussed regularly by staff who made sure any and all messes were cleaned up. The choice to eat in the serving area or above on the terrace (which I'll address later) was wonderful as the tables each had a splendid view of the Aegean Sea. This breakfast was perfect for starting the day off as it was satisfying and not heavy or greasy. Kudos to the kitchen staff for the efforts, it was appreciated!

Perhaps the greatest amenity (besides the staff) was the rooftop terrace which provided a wonderful view any time day or night weather permitting. At the end of each day, we would spend an hour of so, talking of our days adventures, enjoying the cool breezes, and just relaxing. The staff would pop up occasionally to see if we needed anything and respected our privacy. Oddly enough, we were the only ones up there which made it feel like it was our own private terrace.

There is a lot to be said about serendipity. Our days consisted of just walking in every direction and taking in the sights, cafes, and shops. We scheduled a few tours from the front desk in order to give us a break and to see the sights surrounding Old City. One of the key features of the Legend Hotel, is its location to all the local attractions. As noted on its web page (http://www.hotellegend.com/), everything is within easy walking distance, and what's nice about that is that you could return whenever to rest and pick up where you left off in no time.

Overall, we would recommend the Legend Hotel to anyone who is looking for an affordable place to stay that is clean, neat in appearance, and close to any and all that Old City, Istanbul, has to offer. If you are the type that prefers the higher end hotels and what they offer, then this place is not for you. We enjoyed our stay, and there is no doubt we would book at this hotel again.

Room Tip: There are rooms on the same floor as the dining area, and foot traffic might be a bit loud in the mo...

My friends and I had booked the hotel via Expedia with little information and a few pictures we had not expected much from the hotel, apart from that it was very close to some major tourist attractions and had a nice view from the rooftop.

On arrival we were greeted very warmly and made to feel at home with a little laughter and some hot Turkish tea (a common act of Turkish hospitality). The staff were quick to take our luggage and escort us to our room, where we had 3 single immaculate beds awaiting us, everything looked so tidy and clean. The room itself was large and spacious perfect for accommodating 3 young women with large suitcases and way too much clothing. The bathroom was simple but clean with everything in good working order. The room was over looking the garden with its exotic plants and cosy feel it was a pleasure to spend some time in on a warm evening. However nothing compared to the breathtaking views from the rooftop we certainly had not anticipated for such a spectacular view. In the morning me and my friends would escape to the roof for a quick bite of breakfast whilst enjoying the beautiful seafront and the wonderful mosques which appeared in every direction. At night the city glowed i would recommend spending a little time on the roof during the day and at night as it really is a wonderful place to unwind.

The staff at the hotel could not have possibly made us feel anymore welcome it really started to feel like a second home. They were very informative about what to do and were full of recommendations of what to see. We had taken up a member of staff on an offer of an excursion at first we were hesitant however after going to the zoo we were thankful that they had proposed it. I would say Mohmet is definitely the person to see and ask when it comes to excursions. He was very helpful throughout our stay and had fantastic English which surprisingly is not too common a thing to come across in Istanbul.

Overall i can say that this hotel made our stay in turkey extra special as i feel like every member of staff went out of their way for us. I would definitely use this hotel again in the future and recommend it to those looking for a friendly hotel in the heart of Istanbul.

Stayed 5 days in istanbul at the hotel legend and really had the best time there. really really cooperative staff and every one at the hotel was very nice. Also, Mr. Hakan is a really nice manager who guided us really good about visiting and city tours. he is very cooperative in every way.
The hotel services are really nice. loved the breakfast every day. and the hotel is at really nice location from tram, mosques and the camberlitas.. few minutes walk and you will find everything the. Dia super store is just at the front which makes edible grocery shoping very easy at any time.

Loved the Balcony room, hakan was very nice to shift us in a better room the day after we arrived. everything else was perfect. what ever we asked for. loved the hotel and its the certificate of excellence winner 2012. and they have kept thier standards up to the mark. many thanks to all the team,

Room Tip: breakfast is really good. plus the balcony rooms are bigger.

Stayed here for 7 nights with my family and it was absolutely wonderful. Staff were lovely and very helpful, the location is perfect (just a stones throw away from major sites like Ayasofya, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace Museum and the Basilica Cistern) and the rooms are nice and clean. The garden and terrace are both lovely places to relax especially in the summer months when the weather is so nice. Would definitely recommend this place to friends

The night we arrived at the Hotel they were full except for a small single room that had a double bed but we accepted the room as it was late. Being December it was really cold but the room had such a cosy romantic feel to it. The room was very small but had everything we needed and was really warm with a large window that opened right out. We spent 3 nights in Hotel and spent alot time in our room.

Bathroom was also small but had everything we needed.

Location was brilliant everything really easy to find and a short walk to Blue Mosque etc we keep saying we will return to the Legend Hotel during the summer time as there is a nice roof top terrace my Husband said it used to be a bar. Breakfast was typical of a Turkish breakfast but nice too.

All in all good budget Hotel in fantastic location run by friendly people, highly recommened.
