“One of the best things we did in Istanbul!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2014

Our family went to Istanbul for a week in January. On our first day we took an orientation tour with Duygu to our Beyoglu neighborhood. It was exactly what we needed—a great mix of history, local flavor, restaurant and store hints, and loads of great insight and stories. Duygu is charming, warm, smart, and has wonderful English. She was able to make the tour totally relevant to all of us, from my 10 year old son to my 14 year old daughter, to us. She also sketched out several things that we should explore on our own in other parts of Istanbul that were all wonderful.

We had such a great time with Duygu that we booked the 1/2 day foodie tour with Necla. We were slightly worried that some of the same ground would be covered, but Necla carefully crafted an incredible 4 hours that took us to totally fresh geographical and foodie places. We had great fun tasting an amazing range of wonderful Turkish things, all in places we never would have happened upon on our own, even after studying many blogs for insight. Necla is equally smart, competent and delightful.

Love that these two women are crafting their own way in Istanbul, and I've recommended them highly to friends who are planning a visit. The insight, context, warmth, and advice that we received from each were vitally important to the incredible time we had in Istanbul.

“Brilliant way to see hidden parts of Istanbul”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

I was in Istanbul with a friend and we spent half a day being shown around Beyoglu by Duygu. She is a thoughtful guide and took us to see interesting places we would never, ever have found on our own. I can't recommend this enough - I think even if you have been to Istanbul before, Duygu will show you things that will surprise and delight!

“Perfect Orientation Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

We have just spent a week in Istanbul, to celebrate my birthday with children and grandchildren. Our orientation tour with Duygu was exactly what we needed: with a charming, gentle manner, and very fluent in English, she showed us around the Beyoglu area, giving us a real feel for it, from everything that was useful, such as shops and restaurants, to quirky markets...We had two babies and a toddler with us, and Duygu was attentive to their needs, and flexible with her plans. We learnt a lot, and saw a huge amount, all in a laid-back and relaxing way. Highly recommended.

“Wonderful food tour with Offbeat Istanbul”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014

My family and I (husband and children aged 20, 17 and 15) had a wonderful few days in Istanbul over New Year's 2014. We all agreed the absolute highlight of the trip (in a city of highlights) was the food tour we did with Offbeat Istanbul. We ate loads of delicious food and local specialties, some of it in little out of the way places we never would have found as well as from more famous establishments - and our guide, Duygu, was warm, friendly, helpful and very personable. Chatting to her made us feel like we saw a tiny bit of the 'real' Istanbul and made us feel just a little like insiders for awhile. Highly recommend.

“Walking Istanbul's Beyoglu Section with Offbeat Istanbul”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

In the past four days (Oct 2013), we've enjoyed two distinct walks with two equally wonderful guides, Duygu and Necla, in the Galata/Beyoglu section of Istanbul. Four 60-ish, non-Turkish-speaking adults on a week long visit from the USA spent four-plus hours with Duygu on a combined "orientation/artisan" tour and similar amount of time with Necla on the "short foodie" tour. Both ladies spoke fluent English, were knowledgable about their topics, and clearly adapted their presentations to our interests and prior knowledge as they got to know us during our time together. In the first tour, we were introduced to an interesting and diverse group of artisan-entrepreneurs in the Galata area - ceramics, glass-blowing, instrument-building, furniture restoration ... - in a set of informative visits that bore none of the usual high-pressure sales invitations. In the second tour, we sampled many foods from shops and restaurants in the area, experiencing tastes and textures we'd clearly have missed without Necla's guidance. In addition, both tours provided us with a new-found familiarity with an area and city that only one of us had ever visited (and that over 40 years ago). These tours are wonderful complements to visits to the better-known sites of and most definitely have enriched our experience of the people and city of Istanbul. We all agree that we give the highest recommendation to Offbeat Istanbul and our two guides, Duygu and Necla, and to the experiences they given us!
