Owner description: The Ceremony is in the Real Monasteries near Fatih, Yenikapi, Silivrikapi and Galata areas where the local & the Sufi Community lives. We are the member of the community since the 90's and have a culture center in Sultanahmet. Every Mondays and Thursdays at 20:00 we meet in our place, give a little lecture about the ceremony and go to our monastery with our Car. Its an authentic Ceremony and not a tourist show like in Sultanahmet. The Duration is app. 2 hours with Zikr ( meditation ), Sufi Music & Dervish Ceremony. In the end of the ceremony we return back to Sultanahmet. The Dress Code is long Sleeves & you can take a few photos without flash and disturbing the ambiance. We only take limited number of guests soo please let us know in advanced.. You are all welcome in our monastrey..

Apart from the tourists clicking away with their cameras, this was a terrific experience. An hour, at the bottom of Istiklal caddesi, at the museum, it is at 5 pm on Sundays, not sure if all year round. Some people were moved to tears. I wasn't but felt much calmed and in awe of the revolving for 30 minutes. Really eased we went

During my first visit to Turkey, as part of the tour, qwe visited Konya.....the Whirling Dervishes is a spiritual experience not to be missed. The origin of Sama is credited to Rumi, Sufi master and in whose name the Mevlevi Order was founded. The story of the creation of this unique form of dhikr tells that Rumi was walking through the town marketplace one day, when he heard the rhythmic hammering of the goldbeaters. It is believed that Rumi heard the dhikr, in English, "There is no god but Allah (The God)", spoken by the apprentices beating the gold, and was so filled with happiness that he stretched out both of his arms and started spinning in a circle. With that, the practice of Sama and the dervishes of the Mevlevi Order were born. Like on any visit to another country acqaint yourself with the events you go and see - this way you will understand and enjoy it so much more.

I found this attraction by accident when I was trying so hard to find the place for a whirling dervishes dance in Istanbul. This is actually a religious dance where the dancers are in rotation trance motion as they are devoting their soul and mind to God. A must see experience when you are in the city. Not so difficult to find, just ask your hotel concierge as they put their brochure there. The price is a bit expensive for 1 hr performace but truly worth the experience. Note: If you are traveling with young amd noisy kids, definitely you wouldn't be able to come since this show requires a total audience silence.
