This restaurant is tucked away in a side street , but in reasonably central position . We stayed at the Arena hotel close by, and wishing to eat further away we didnt eat here until our last night nd I would have gone there again if I had tried it earlier. . It was really good, good choice on the menu, traditional home cooked food at a very affordable price. I would suggest you aim to eat just before sunset in order to experience not only the high rooftop scenery , but also the magnificent sunset falling over Istanbul. It really is worth climbing the 5 flights or more) steps to the rooftop if you plan to dine in the evening

So, every day we (our family of four) walked from our hotel in a neighborhood of the old city in Istanbul past this restaurant. The man working there kept inviting us in and we kept rejecting - then we'd repeat, all the while, the spurned host maintained his courteous demeanor and sense of humor. Finally, we decided - why not? - and said yes. He shook our hands - all four of us - and showed us up to a table on the terrace. Then he sat down to join us - and we all had a good laugh.

We're glad we took him up on his offer. The view of the Sea of Marmara and the the neighborhood was absolutely stunning. The terrace was very small, but the atmosphere was casual and it felt more like dining among friends than being cramped. The service was a little slow, although with a view like that, what's the hurry? The food was very good - we had a mixed mezze which was OK, and pide and kebabs, both of which were excellent. The prices were very reasonable - around 100 TL for the four of us, including 3 beers. It's a little off teh beaten track - maybe a 5 or 10 minute walk from the Hagia Sophia - but well worth it!

The climb is worth it -- views of the historic district and the Sea of Marmara are spectacular. Food is top quality . . . and the lamb stew is as good as any "tosti kebap" without the pricetag that accompanies the usual flowerpot pyrotechnics.

We were staying at the hotel across the street and decided to give them a try for our first night in Istanbul. The friendly (although a little too flirty and conversational) waiter and good food gave us a great first introduction too Turky! There was good vegetarian fare, fun puffy bread, and well cooked kabobs. The breath taking view of the bosphorus, ruins, and mosque added to the entire experience. The meal was a resonable price as well. I would recomend.
