Description: Sekizistanbul, located in a historic building that is thought to date back to the late 19th century, has been re-opened by the leading chef and taste designer Maksut Aşkar. Good food lovers are quite familiar with Aşkar through his former delicious endeavors, from his previous restaurants, LilBitz and MultiMekan. Aşkar emphasizes on casual and comfortable dining experience with a twist by following the modernist way. And he calles it a journey back to refined basics. The menu changes every 3 months according to the seasons fresh ingredients. You can find a tasting menu of all bits in the menu. Sekizistanbul will also likely make its mark on Istanbul’s nightlife scene after dinner as Nupera’s former DJ Cenk will be in charge of the music until 4am between Wednesdays and Saturdays..

Mr. Maksut Askar is one of Turkey's finest chefs, and he is known as a first-class gourmand.
The dishes are tastefully and excellent, visually inventive and creative, and the wine list extensive; It's one of the few restaurants in Istanbul with such a delihtfull menü and a relaxing atmosphere.
The services were also good, with a dedicated team (dressed in special outfits) catering to your every need.
Sekiz Istanbul is an absolute fine-dining and wine-lovers' paradise in the heart of Istanbul.

We found the restaurant by chance on our first evening in Beyoglu. It looked fully booked, but we were immediately hosted and enjoyed a drink at the bar whilst the head chef ensured we understood his menu and were seated. The interior was warm, modern and comfortable with a convivial atmosphere. Between the four of us we feasted on shared cold pâté and ceviches to start, followed by delicious lamb, salads and fish for main course and finished by a fantastic Turkish coffee mouse, amazing! Our wine was enjoyable but a lucky choice as the sommelier didn't quite match his chef...

Overall, a great modern istanbuli restaurant.

Yemek cok guzel basladi, ekmegin yaninda gelen yesil zeytinyagli muammara ekmek yemeyecegiz diyenleri bile cezbedip masadaki ekmegin bitmesine sebep oldu. Humus, lavanta yagli lokum gibi ahtapot sectigimiz önyemeklerden birkac tanesi idi. Yasadigim ulkenin getirmis oldugu aliskanlikla ben somon istedim, esim de somonlu armutlu pizza istedi. Önume hashas tohumlu somon gelince, sasirmadim degil, sasirdim...

I wanted to write this review in two languages... I am a Turkish person living abroad. When I arrived in Istanbul for the christmas holiday my friends advised me to have a dinner at SekizIstanbul. So to celebrate New Year (as we do in Turkey) and my birthday which is in the beginning of January, me and my friends chose SekizIstanbul, and I am so happy we did so! Since we were a group of 8 people we chose to have all the starters and then share them among us. The dinner experience started very nice with the muammara surrounded by green coloured olive oil (we learned that the colour came from parsley that was infused in the oil) that came with the bread. Even those among us that said they won't have bread could not hold themselves, before the starters arrived all bread was finished!!! :) Among our starter choices were hummus and octopus with lavender, both became favourites of mine. As a habit from the country we are living in I chose salmon and my partner chose salmon and pear pizza. When my salmon arrived covered in poppy seeds I was a bit surprised. But after taking the first bite I understood why the chef had chosen to cover the salmon in poppy seeds, the both tastes were in such a harmony with each other. I had also a chance to taste of my partner's pizza. It was excellent. I had never thought I would encounter such a taste in my lovely country!
I would like to thank the chef who manages to create such unique tastes and the friendly and welcoming staff of SekizIstanbul for making our night excellent :) Keep the good work going!
