“Place close to attractions”
Reviewed May 3, 2014

I stayed at tom square this April with my wife for 5 nights. I booked a room; but hotel gave me a studio apartment (with kitchenette) few steps down the lane, which is a value for money place. Shops are nearby so we got eatables easily and enjoyed our homemade breakfasts. Hotel staff - Yousuf, Ali and the Georgian lady - are very helpful for us as well as friendly & welcoming.
The most attractive aspect is its location. All major attractions of Sultanahmet district like Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palace (Museum), Little Hagia Sofia, Bsilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, and beach green belt (kennedy ave.) etc. are within 10 minutes walk. Nearest Tram station is Beyazit (Grand Bazaar) which within 10 minutes walk; but it is a steep walk upwards from hotel to station.
Good speed wifi is available so you can Skype, viber easily.

Room Tip: Studio apartment (Volare) is a good place for 2 or 3 people. it has kitchenette too.

This small hotel situated away from the "tourist saturated" center but still only 5 minutes walk to the Gran Bazaar was a wonderful find. We didn't stay in the main building but in a mini appartment just down the road. Very clean, extremely comfortable bed, coffee making facilities and fridge. Lovely breakfast, Nana attentive and warm, Yussef helpful and giving us lots of tips, not to mention Ali, who went out of his way to serve us breakfast, (even though we were late) and who made sure that everything was in order. I would certainly stay here again, and highly reccomend this hotel.

Thank you so much!! (especially for THAT coffee!!)

I was @ tom square for 5 nights and I really appreciated it. Far from touristic sites but at the same time at 15 minutes from the most important monuments. The place is very clean, confortable, well organized. Ali,Yusuf and Nana have been really kind and I would recommend it.

Ali, Yusuf, and Nana were helpful, friendly and professional hosts. We stayed in one of their buildings just down the street from the main one. Unfortunately, we had trouble with the hot water twice, but the staff quickly fixed it. You should be aware that the majority of the rooms require you to use stairs which are fairly steep. I'd say that this place (due to the compact rooms) is better suited for people without young children.
This small hotel is hard to find the first time, but easy to locate once you know where it is. It is in easy (though some steep uphill) walking distance to many places such as the fish market, the Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sophia, many restaurants, etc. The breakfast was filling and plentiful and could be arranged early if you were off on a tour.
Strangely, in our 5 day/4 night stay, our room was not refreshed even once. I have stayed in many different hotels around the world and I've never encountered one that doesn't at least do light housekeeping during your stay (e.g. empty garbage, refresh towels and the like). Luckily, my sister and I are clean and tidy people.

Room Tip: If you aren't able to handle steep steps, ask for one of their ground-floor rooms (only a couple...

It was a fabolous experince for me and my wife. Hotel located in the historical area and really very closed to all you need to been in. Grand Bazaar is just only 10 min. by walking.
Staff were also excellent. They gave us a lot of information about Istanbul and how to get there. Our room is cleaned and tidied every day and continental breakfast is served with various kind of cheese which is carefully and perfectly selected. Whenever we need anything the staff and manager did their best.
The building was an old apartment tastefully renevead and docarated with wooden which is really very authentic.
At our last two nights we stayed volare apart which is also related to Tomsquare Hotel ( Because we expanded our holiday). It was also good one.
This place would be mine priority if I would visit Istanbul again.

Room Tip: Sea view suit is the best room they have. View of the Istanbul is really wonderful and breathe takin...

This is a small, new hotel in a nice location. We booked the economy room, which is a top floor attic room with a slanted wood ceiling that made half the room too small to stand up in. The room was very bright, clean and cozy. Do be aware that there is no elevator and guests must walk up the pretty spiral wooden staircase -- not easy to get bags up 4 flights if you are in the top floor! Staff is very friendly and helpful, neighborhood is interesting to explore, about 15 min walk to the Blue Mosque. We enjoyed our stay here and would stay again!

Room Tip: The small economy room is on the top floor and requires carrying bags up 4 flights of stairs on a sm...

The hotel is very close to the Blue Mosque and the main attractions in Sultanahmet area and it is a very convenient solution for visiting Istanbul without renouncing to a good hotel.
The only thing is that the hotel is located in a small street that is difficult to find, if you ever go there with taxi (ask for the price first!) make sure you specify that the hotel (Kumluk Sk) is close to Kadirga Limani and Gedik Pasa Caddesi (that might help you in case taxis do not know where to go). Otherwise you can take the Tram to Beyasit station and walk down the hill.
Inside all is renewed with wooden interiors and floors, our room (2nd floor) was comfortable and very nice. The staff were lovely and although some of them spoke little English they were very attentive, polite and helpful. Tom in particular was very nice, helping you with tips and suggestions (she also speaks good italian and english). Continental breakfast was good with some cheese, eggs, bread, marmalades, olives and coffee/tea.

These are not drawbacks to me, but I think that, when booking the hotel, people should be aware of the following aspects as someone might get disappointed.
The neighborhood might look scary at first, but you then get used to the area and realize is not that different than all others in Istanbul. To go to the tram/Grand Bazar and all other sightseeings you have to walk a steep hill, but again, this is the peculiarity of Istanbul, so maybe it can be better to do it early in the morning to get trained for the day ;)
