Since (arguably) Cihangir has all been used up and is about to lose its bohemian hype, lately its hipster crowd is shifting over to districts like Galata and Karaköy in which Karabatak became the new meeting point among many other establishments alike located around of the latter. Situated on a very modest and a seemingly not-so-attractive street of Karaköy, the cafe's ambiance and the mood it sets for its customers delivers a pleasant surprise. While the artsy crowd mingle in one corner, newly arrived expats of different nations try to get a sense of hidden Istanbul with their curious eyes in another. The decoration is most definitely something of sort that would pop out of a contemporary interior design magazine and it surely caters to the aesthetic eye. This is not a place to drink or taste what Istanbul offers, but rather to get a feeling of its Bohemian side. Therefore, it's not a location to cater to an average tourist type but to the discoverer kind who would want to feel like a resident of that area. Therefore, do not expect much from the food or the drinks, which you can find almost in similar places, but rather savor the atmosphere and the ambiance. (Beware, it gets very crowded towards the afternoon in the weekends!)
