Decent hotel with good staff

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 23, 2014
Taksim Square's supposed to be the "happening" part of Istanbul. Ramada Taksim is decent, though standard rooms are very small, especially after the similarly priced luxurious rooms we had a Goreme Kaya in Cappadocia. But the staff made up for it with their helpful and friendly nature. However, I wish I had done more research before our trip to Istanbul. The right place to stay would in Sultan Ahmet area as this is the area with all the historical monuments and the famous Grand Bazaar within walking distance.
Date of stay: October 2014
Room Tip: I would recommend stay in Sultan Ahmet area / old city area for real Istanbul experience. If...

Taksim Square is basically the Time Square of Istanbul, not my favorite area. But it is convenient to the Havatas Airport Shuttle, Metro and Tram. The Ramada is off a quiet side street away from the craziness. It was enjoyable coming back to the peace of the hotel each night and the staff was always friendly and welcoming. The rooms are modern, basic and clean. When I arrived we were given 303, but it smelled like smoke, even though it was a non smoking room. The girl at the desk was more than happy to offer us the alternate room 301, which was perfect. Friends of ours stayed in 306, which was also good. We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights. We were very surprised at how good the breakfast buffet was. We loved it! I would definitely recommend getting a package where it was included. Some folks on TA mentioned issues with air-conditioning. Ours worked fine and the room had its own thermostat. My only complaint about the hotel was the internet. We had to put a chair by the door to get a connection. The signal was very poor in the room. The Havatas Airport Shuttle is at the end of the block. Be warned! Do not take a taxi in Istanbul. You will be scammed or worse. The bus, metro and Trams can get you where you need to go. I recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Room tip: 301 and 301 were good with 2 single beds, HDTV, Air, Safe.

I stayed at the Ramada at Taksim square for two days. I found it hard to find at first but once you know where it is you will find it a great location to food, taxis, money exchange. The staff are very friendly and attentive. They even let us have showers once we checked out and had to come back for our bags as we had a late night bus ride back to Greece. The breakfast was complete both English and Turkish inspired. Would stay here again!

Sometimes it is important to avoid any misunderstanding, especially if you have asked to book a taxi to the airport.
If the hotel receptionists are not good English speakers it is easy to lose your flight.
Except for this problem, the hotel has a good position near Taksim Square and Metro , a pleasant (even if small) swimming pool and gym for relax and unwind and average prices.
The breakfast ambience is a little bit cold and you feel it could be anywhere in the world except than in an oriental town.
Maybe someone could prefer shutters instead of curtains at his window. I did not mind of it but light sleepers could be disturbed by the sun in the morning.
I wouldn’t choose it but as it was a business trip, the company booked it for us.

Room tip: insulation is very poor so you can only to hope that your neighbours are discreet people

The location of the hotel is not bad, but that is all. Rooms are average, I would rather say it is a 3 star hotel. Food is also average, not bad, but nothing extraordinary.
The staff is not too friendly, receptionists, waitresses are even rude a bit.
Sleep quality is also not optimal.
I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone.
