“Do NOT waste your money on this tourist trap!”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

This was by far my worst experience in Istanbul. I have traveled a lot and done a lot of tours and have never had such an awful time. The full day tour advertised that it came with "lunch," but it was at a dirty, disgusting restaurant. And somehow, lunch did not include any drink. Yes, we had to pay for our own overpriced water. Except me, that is, because there was A ROCK IN MY FOOD. Yep, a marble-sized stone that I chomped down on and nearly chipped a tooth. My consolation prize was free water, how nice.

The tour itself was no better. We spent the first 45 minutes looking at a map of Turkey and cartoon pictures of boats, and we were then rushed through Aya Sofya and other important sites so that we barely had time to take a picture. Of course we had plenty of time to visit the carpet store where they tried to pressure us for a half hour to buy a rug or jewelry. After being rushed through more of the real sites, we had to stand around for over an hour to wait for another group of people who decided to come late. This was unacceptable! We ended the tour 2 hours late and barely got to see any of the real sites.

Finally, our tour guide had barely any knowledge outside of the flash cards she apparently memorized: why was the Capitol moved to Ankara? "We wanted a change of pace." (No mention of WWI). The only mention of Ataturk? "He is hero." On architecture? "Some houses are made of wood." She often just described what was in front of our eyes.

Overall, this was a complete waste of a day for 70 euros and it almost ruined our trip. Don't let it happen to you!

“Great deal and great experience!”

The walking tours provided by the "Istanbul Walks" are a great experience in the city. Is a possibility to understand more about the culture and amazing history of this so important city for history. The guides are well prepared and very nice. Is a good way to get to know a local and see how the turkish people is nice and kind. The classical and the highlights is a must do and the bosphorus cruise and the dolmbahce palace are incredible. The guides Selma and Yuke were outstanding and gave lot of informations and tips about the city, making the days very enjoyable and fun! really reccomend!

“Istanbul Walks”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

We recently visited Istanbul for a week. The city lives up to its fabulous reputation - sights, sounds and food. The main attractions are easy to visit on your own but, it being our first visit, and wanting to experience some of the byways as well as the highways, we booked a guide for a half day tour, through Istanbul Walks. It was well worth it. Having explaining that we didn't really need to see any more mosques, our very knowledgeable guide grasped what we were looking for and led us all over the old city, down winding alleys to show off views we'd never have found ourselves. He also introduced us to foods and drink we'd never have come across, let alone tried.

“Very knowledgeable and friendly”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Our guide spoke excellent English and was a delightful companion for our one day tour of the Bosphorus and walk in Asia. We learnt so much in one day about Turkey. We wished we had done the tour on the first day of stay as it would have changed some of our choices of what to do in 4 days. Highly recommended.
