"Crazy chief" brought me the plate on fire. The food is very good and the prices are normal. And the waiter Gino is also a crazy and good guy.

“Tried this one on the off chance”

Not very impressive from the outside. But Gino the owners attention to detail and customer service was faultless.I have to say this was the best mid range meal we had while we were in Istanbul. Keep up the good work.

“Turkish hospitality at its best...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013

We are vegetarians. It was Tetch who convinced us to enter the restaurant and told us that we could have a good veg meal.

Gino, who attended us, took great care. We were offered lovely dips and a the garlic bread was delightful. We also got a couple of baklava .... Very tasty! All these 3, on the house. We had some testi kebab, a very 'stylish' dish when it comes to your table.

Smet , the guy who runs the place, knows little English , but was a delight to speak with! He made us try some warm apple tea on the house, and my husband, who usually does not like tea, totally enjoyed it.

It's a place that you must visit ... For the food, the people and to experience true Turkish hospitality !

“Our favourite cafe in Sultanahmet- Kept going back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

A really great place to eat and drink. We were always welcomed, and Gino was always very friendly and accommodated every request and also pre-empted our needs (the owner, and the other guy there were also friendly and told us all about their family etc and we shared photos). Gino’s garlic naan bread was the best bread I had in Sultanahmet. We had mostly drinks there, but the lamb chops, cheese rolls and eggplant salad we ordered on various days were all great. We were always given freebies, such as coffee’s, baklava and bread/dips- even if we were just having beers/wine.

We were there in there in the off season (winter) and we feel the cold being from Australia and going from a heatwave into Europe’s winter. On one occasion Gino brought out an electric heater for us and on another day borrowed a gas heater from one of the neighbouring tenancies to keep us warm.

Gino, my husband and myself shared many stories about our hometowns and his English was very good, he understood most of our joking comments.

The afternoon we were due to leave we were happy to kill time in their cafe (the weather was cold, raining and miserable) and just drink beers. One of the guys there, not sure of his name (the youngest one) offered to get his friend who has a minivan/shuttle service to take us to the airport rather than us getting a taxi- he organised this for us and a reasonable price agreed. We got to the airport on time in a private van with plenty of room for us and our big bags.

Highly recommend this place, there was a reason we went back there about 7 or so times over 4 days. For us the friendly, laid back, non money hungry and accommodating ways of Gino was the highlight.
