“Great experience at Istanbul!”
Reviewed October 20, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

I came solo for first time to Istanbul to attend an international conference. Altough the Heirloom is located at Beyoglu and not at Sultanahmet, where my meetings took place and where the upmost worth-to-visit-attractions of Istanbul are located, I booked the Tulip Room at the Heirloom Istanbul because the nice images with tasteful furniture have had attracted my attention. Even the excellent valuations of former guests at Tripadvisor seemed to make this place to be a good choice.

In reality it was even better! Beginning with the sincere and wellcoming conversation with the owner lady Dilek Çhamli via Email in advance of my arrival, until the last minute of my stay of four nights, I felt like at home or with family! Ms. Çamli speaks perfect English and French.

The young house holder Hasan (maitre dit) came 100 metres up to the main street to help me with the luggage at the arrival evening!
He is always there if one needs help. Good boy!

The Tulip Room at the first floor was very tastfully furnished, the King size bed was neatly clean and comfortable, the shower bathroom was modern and totally nice, tidily and everything functioned! How good to arrive at such a place after a long day of travelling!
One bottle of mineral water for free and some fresh fruits wellcomes the new guest!
Thick curtains protects one from the public street lights. It is for Istanbul a very quite and peaceful place!

The breakfast isn't icluded in the price of boarding. But you can get ( Hasan-made!) for 12 $ an individually fresh made five-star-breakfast out of organic food at the owner driven cafe at the ground level of the house. Super! Such a hidden nice place! I it so easy to annoy me with radio-pop music or radio-chatter at mornings. But at the Heirloom Istanbul one is surrounded by the gentle sounds of Keith Jarrett's piano music or Ella Fitzgerald's songs. Tip: try out the Siphon-Coffee! Maybe the best in town!

After breakfast usually I walked the 15 minutes downhill to the Galata Bridge towards Sultanahmet to discover a little bit the neighbourhood. This part of Beyoglu seemes to me becoming nowadays a fancy place to stay for middle-class locals, with nice antique shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, lots of old houses and good atmosphere. A perfect mixture of oriental and western urban style of living.

I can recommend the Heirloom Istanbul for every visitor of Istanbul warmly, particularly for emotional people with fine taste. Here one can find good old oriental manners in combination with social responsibilty of the noble owner lady Dilek Çamli.

Don't forget your slippers, for everybody must -like at any real oriental home - take the shoes off at the entry and store it at a locker at the entrance hall!

My husband and I stayed here for a week. The host, Dilek, and her team are very gracious and caring. The food in the cafe downstairs was delicious: especially the coffee. The breakfasts were amazing. The apartment is very comfortable and has everything you need. The location is excellent. It's in Chihangir which is part of Beyoglu but a little quieter. It is a 10 minute walk up to Taksim Squre, 10 minute walk west to Isketal Cadessi and 10 minute walk down to catch the tram to Sultanahmet.

The decor is unique. Instead of going ultramodern like some other apartments, Dilek has restored this beautiful 100 year old house in a way that makes it modern and functional but preserves its historical heritage.
