The Picture here shows the mikitary academy along Bosphorus
(kuleli)
Askeri müze located at Harbiye near to Hilton hotel.
Altough it is called military museum there are many other items displayed.
good instructions.
The show of Janissary(Mehter)hold here is exceptional.
You need about 2 hours to
spend here to visit this museum and the show.

This is a lovely little museum to spend a couple of hours . We went as there is a Starfighter on display, but were pleasantly surprised at the rest of the exhibits. It was interesting to see things from the Turkish point of view in relation to the First World War amongst other things.
Whilst we were there, there was a party of schoolchildren who were loving the place! So suitable for all ages
Entrance fee is 5tl which is excellent value for money.
The museum is approximately a fifteen minute stroll from Taskim Square or a short taxi ride but agree a price first we paid 20tl but possibly could have got it for 15tl !!!
All in all a good place to visit

Very large museum, but largely a collection of swords and armour. You can skip a lot of it and find what you are particularly interested in.
I like any museum,but if you're on a tight schedule,don't bother.
Whilst looking at watches to buy 10 minutes before closing,we were rudely told 'Madame,10 minutes to closing' pointing at her watch.
Needless to say,no sale !

My husband and son are totally completely in love with military museums, so I've gotten to be a bit of a "outsider's" connoisseur. I'm not into the ones that just show rows and rows of weapons, or suits of armor, or banners, but do very much like the ones which provide a lot of history along with the exhibits. This one does the job very nicely - it has some of the rows and rows of "stuff", but also has many rooms with exhibits telling the history of the many wars that Turkey (and its predecessor nations/empires) has been involved in. And, sitting at the crossroads of Europe and Asia as Turkey does - there have been lot of wars!

I especially liked being able to see the chain used to block off the Golden Horn, and since I had read a history of the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the diorama and exhibits about that were particularly interesting.

The museum is a bit off the normal tourist path, but not too hard to get to. I recommend it if you like either history or the military.
