From the outside this hotel does not look like much. But when you enter you are greeted by a friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere. We spent a great extended weekend here. The rooms are nice and modern and the breakfast is delicious. The hotel is a very short distance from the tourist sites in the center. If you take the tram from around the corner you can be there in about 10 minutes.

Sub Hotel is a great place to stay in Istanbul, on the uprising location of Karakoy, nearby attractions during the day and trendy bars and restaurant during the night.
The rooms are not so big (but it's normal for capital cities) and well decorated with typical paints and haut-deco objects as beds, chairs etc.
Breakfast is ok, but the staff is simply fantastic...and they have suggested some of the best spots in the city..thanks guys!

As per the below, charming little hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms very comfortable - we had a room at the front of the building and were not troubled by any noise as we kept the windows shut and the air con on during the nights. If anything, the calls to prayer, when we did hear them, rather added to the experience! Breakfast was more than adequate - delicious home-made lemonade and a very good fried egg each morning.

Perfectly positioned for city-breakers; five minute walk to the nearest tram stop, ten/fifteen minute walk up the hill to lots of lovely restaurants/bars, 30 minute walk to Topkapi/Aya Sophya/Blue Mosque, and five minutes to the nearest ferry terminal.

Could benefit from the addition of a roof top bar if at all possible (where wouldn't?!), and a license to sell alcohol other than from the mini-bars.

Good value for money and would highly recommend.

Sub hotel is the perfect choice when you want to discover the non-touristy, urban istanbul.

Rooms are decent size, interesting original and contemporary design, feature a good bathroom, perfect beds. great service, friendly crew, taking the time to share their favorite addresses in town. very good breakfast with delicious homemade goodies and daily specials, served in the lovely lobby/restaurant.

The karakoy area is upcoming, if not already arrived. There are some rough edges to this district, but also plenty of galleries, nice shops and cool restaurants/bars. In a very typical, cool yet cosy atmosphere. The best is Unter, right around the corner, great atmosphere, relaxed and somewhat hip in a laidback way. Also check out the kilic ali pasa hamam, renovated into a spa-ish retreat; luxurious and authentic. Sub is centrally located, you can walk to all the touristy sites in sulthanamet in 20 min, or the tramway will take you there within 5.

Would definitely book sub again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights at SUB hotel. Great central location - walking distance to Sultanahmet and Galata Tower to Taksim Square, very helpful staff, interesting decor and great breakfast. The receptionist gave us great information about where to go and suggested great restaurants - and made reservations for us.

Just to echo most of the other reviews, Sub Hotel is a nicely put together boutique hotel in a quiet yet central area of Istanbul. The rooms and restaurant area offer everything you'd need - not over the top luxurious but a nice mix between homey and artsy. The shining highlight was the staff: they were by far the kindest, most helpful people I've encountered at a hotel anywhere in the world. Each recommendation and piece of advice that they gave, from transit to restaurants to a Turkish bath, was excellent.

Just stayed at the Sub Hotel and loved it! We arrived in the morning and were invited to eat breakfast before checking in. The staff brought our check-in papers over to our table and brought the luggage to our room.

After we'd checked in the front desk staff offered to help us plan our day, and they made reservations for us. Incredibly helpful and friendly.

The room was clean and large enough for the two of us. On the bed was a sign about how special the mattress was, and it was true -- we slept so well! And the room for one night was a great deal.

The location is perfect -- 10 minute walk across to the Old Town, and right next to Beyoglu. Would highly recommend and definitely want to stay there again!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Given the boggling variety of architectural and design styles that crowd the eye in Istanbul, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to find the industrial-chic SuB Hotel in Karaköy (née Galata), the ancient commercial and cultural core of the city. And yet, let’s be honest: it is a bit of a surprise. SuB Hotel, quirky capitalization and all, looks more like a place you’d find in Greenpoint (Brooklyn) or Neukölnn (Berlin) than in the oldest part of one of history’s great crossroads of civilizations. ... more   less
