I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions, both as a solo traveler and with friends or family. Location is just off Istiklal cad, in Beyoglu, and the Golden Horn is at its feet, if not blocked by the ugly square box of TRT studios. Historically, together with Pera Palace hotel, this used to be a choice destination for Oriental Express passengers when passing through Istanbul.
I would not stay there any more, as there is only so much historic charm alone is worth and boy is this hotel overpriced ... if you are lucky the old, unrenovated rooms are full of curious little details from times past. The rooms after renovation are horrible in my opinion as all what made this place special have been destroyed. Breakfast is also not anything to write home about, in fact it was one of the worst breakfasts during my numerous stays in Istanbul.
Having a drink in the lobby bar is a different story altogether. It is amazing. Meet the talking parrots, see bits and pieces of Constantinople history and enjoy this unique place while it is not "brought up to standard".
