“A little gem in the heart of the old city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

We recently stayed at the And Hotel in Istanbul. The hotel is small, very clean and attractively furnished. We asked for a room with a view and we got one that had a nice balcony that looked at the Bosphorus. The rooms on the other side looked right at a mosque. Our beds were comfortable and the bathroom was good sized, modern and very pretty. All the sites to see in the area are in walking distance. The mosques and the palace are literally just outside your door. The restaurant on the top floor has a gorgeous view of the Hagia Sophia. The food was just average. The breakfast downstairs is very good and plentiful and the staff is extremely helpful. We took a bus/boat trip on one of the days that we were there and the hotel arranged for us to be picked up at the door. We would stay at the And again if we ever return to Istanbul.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the views. The ones in the front look directly at the Hagia Sophia.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you very much for your review. We are just honured. We have changed our cousine at the roof top restaurant. As you know we have an unbeatable view of Old City and now we are just focused on the food we are serving to combine both dine&view. We are waiting your visit to taste our new cousin.

Many thanks

We have stayed there twice, once with a tour and once on our own. The location is very convenient. We stayed on the 4th and 5th floors with the view of Hagia Sofia and enjoyed seeing it and the Blue Mosque from our window. The 5th floor has a balcony on which we sat to enjoy the views. The vacant lot next to the hotel is going to be a green space, and work was starting on it during our last visit (11/2012).
The rooms are small but very nicely decorated. The breakfast is adequate (they have a fresh coffee machine, which we found rare in Turkey). Signs indicate you can have eggs to order for an additional charge, but hard-boiled eggs are included on the buffet, along with breads, cheeses, fruit, olives, tomatoes, etc. We just went with the buffet.
We had 2 meals at the upstairs restaurant. One was very good; one was average.
We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
We have never stayed anywhere else in Istanbul, so we can't comment on a price comparison.

Room Tip: We had the panoramic view rooms, which probably cost more. We really didn't spend much time in...

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you very much for your time to write such a review. We are trying to put what we have fresh or what we are having at our homes in to our breakfast. So thank you for your review on this. This means that breakfast is satisfying.

About the food served up on our roof. We changes our cousine and menu. We are getting good feedbacks and we are trying to improve our service and food as we know that we have an specious view. Thank you for letting us improve our mistakes or minuses.

The room itself was spacious enough for 3 people in one room. It is average in its decor yet, beds were very comfortable compared to other hotels we stayed in Turkey. I can without doubt say, we had a good night sleep. In regards to location, fairly good; not much of a view unless you are observing from higher levels and not seeing empty lot right across from the hotel which is going to have construction anytime now. Not sure what exactly they will be building there. Breakfast was average, definitely will not go hungry but it would be a lot better if crepes, scramled eggs, potatoes and meat would be hot and not cold. This would have made such a difference. Front office staff helpfullness was average. This hotel would definitely benefit if iron and tea maker would be in each room, Definitely wasn't noisy. Overall, not bad experience.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking time to write a review. We will take serious action to breakfast. Thank you for bedding reviews. Most important thing for us is a park will be build front of the hotel. Here you can find the national newspaper's link to see. http://www.sabah.com.tr/Gundem/2012/11/23/sultanahmet-meydani-da-degisiyor
Other thing is most of our rooms have view but a few of them does not. So we are sorry you could not get one of them but we have mentioned these rooms as panaromic and you can stay in one of these rooms by choosing them when you are reserving.

Best regards,

I stayed here for two nights on a tour. The hotel is really well presented and the decor is top notch. It is in a superb location a 2 minute walk from the Hagia Sophia and a 5 minute walk from the Blue Mosque. Room service is great and very good value.

I didn't pay the hotel directly but I did see their prices and compared to the competition I do think they are pricey. You can find well located good hotels with great views for far less. Great views in particular are a dime a dozen in Istanbul. Still, I have stayed at a few places in Istanbul and this was the nicest. It calls itself a three 3 star hotel which is strange, because it is more like a 4.5 star hotel.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your review. Sultanahmet is not a big place so maybe most of them have a nice view from their top terracces and few minutes walk to main amendments but if they are in Sultanahmet. Most of hotels point their location in old city and Sultanahmet but they are not really. Saddest thing is you can only realize it when you reach to hotel. The thing we can promise is we are in the center and not more than 5 hotels have the location advantages as us nor not more than 3 hotels have the view of ours. You can trust these as this hopefully will published soon.

Thanking you again.

When we reached the hotel, we were quite happy to see it as it looked very nice from outside. Right in front of the hotel is the famous Hagia Sophia Mosque of Istanbul. As we entered the lobby, there were two men at the reception and when we told them we wanted to check in, he glanced at us with a very hostile look on his face and the other man was talking inTurkish....bla....bla...bla...
something we couldn't understand. Guess what, nothing happened and we were standing there trying to figure out what next? Finally we left our luggages and went out for a daily walking tour around Istanbul without checking into our room.
When we return to the hotel at about 6pm, our luggages were still at the same place we left them. Another guy was at the reception , with no idea that he has to give us a room. Finally after a long hassle, we got ourselves into an extremely small room. There was no drinking water, no complimentary coffee or tea, no kettle......and no space! We really lost our mood .
As we have to leave early the next day to another city, we were down at the lobby at around half past six. There was nothing to eat for breakfast. When we got down there, the lobby was in complete darkness and no one was there. Suddenly we realized there was a man sleeping and snoring away on the couch and we just couldn't sit there to wait for the tour pick up.
We waited outside in the cold for half an hour. We were so happy to leave. All I can say is this might be the worst hotel stay I have had so far.

Room Tip: The concept of a good room is very individual, it all depends on what is desired . Anyhow the recept...

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your feedback. There seems some of your reviews do not seem wright to us. For example breakfast starts at 7:30 or noone can touch your luggage unless you say them to. That means as you leave your luggage to storage you are the only one can touch it. Third we do not give room sizes of our rooms and if you find your room small you are always have right to change it. Fouth we also do not have any kettle in our rooms at all. I think you do not have much time to spend in our hotel but had time to get angry in something you can blame.

Anyhow guests are always wright and we thank you for your review.

We can really recommend the hotel. We stayed there 6 nights at the end of October 2012. We had a room on the 5th floor - it is quite small, but is new renovated, looks like new and ist clean - which is very important for us. I would not expect such a nice room from a 3* hotel in Turkey. The beds are so comfortable!!!

If you want a larger room, take the lower floors, but there wont'be such a view. The walls between the rooms are thin and you would hear everything, but all the guestes were quite and discreet in order not to disturb each other. There were no problems with noise or something at all.

The view is unbelievable. You see Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Top-kapi palace and even the Bosphorus with the bridge. Our room was 503 - in the middle of the 5th floor. And how beautiful the mosques sing their prayers! (5 times a day - starting with 6.30 or so - but it is that way everywhere in Istanbul).

The breakfast offeres some typical turkish bakery and other plates, which was all very interesting to taste. It is unfortunatly in a room on the ground floor (not very cosy - no table cloths) - not in the restaurant upstairs, which would also have a panoramic view. But there is a terrace on the ground floor and we had our breakfast outside, looking to the Hagia Sophia (and at the kittens).

Before the hotel there is now an empty place, and I think something might be built there later, that might be uncomfortable for the guests. But now it is quite.

Another nice thing about the location is the tram, which is not far away. The Zisterne is on the same street.

Just an advice - we booked through octopustravel, and at our arrival the receptionist could not find our reservation - took him 2 days. So send them an e-mail bevore you get there, to be sure that you get your room. Another thing - while trying to book the hotel directly via e-mail, I didn't quite trust them and decided to book through octopustravel, which I was then sorry for - because the hotel thought I did book directly, and I was very sorry for the mistake, it might have incurred them (or us) additional costs. It all turned out well, and it was friendly and nice of them to let it be. So I think the hotel can really be trusted. It has cost us 120 EUR per night for two.

We also really liked the turkish people - so friendly, so intelligent, so helpful! Didn't expect it. Prices in Turkey are lower than in our Austria.

And - buy the turkish delight to take away to your country at the shop nearest to the hotel (3 TL for a small box, 5 TL for a large one) - further away it turned out to cost three times as much. But dont't buy the boxes with the bahklava - not so good in the boxes, better in the cafe's.

Transfer from hotel to the Atatürk airport costs 15TL per person, which is 7,5 Euro (if you take the metro, it will cost you 3 Euro - not such a big difference). You can ask the hotel about the transfer.

So, we can really recommend the hotel, and are really glad to have spend our holiday there!

Room Tip: As we said - rooms on the 5th floor are smaller, but have a panoramic view. Make sure to book a room...

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you very much for your review.

There is nothing to explain much. You had done a great job for us:) Thank you guys being so nice. If you book directly with us you also win a free transportation from airport. We were thinking to move our breakfast to roof but it is not comfortable because of the direct sunlight it is having early in the morning to midday. It will be better to have it now where it is as our front side began for construction and will finish mid April. We will have a beautiful garden out there. Nothing high just a big garden for public.

Happy new year
