“The Bridge Between Old and New”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2014

A visit to and walk across the Galata Bridge just has to be experienced on your visit to Istanbul. It is a necessary social event on your calendar. No matter the time of day or night, there will be activity on the bridge - the fishermen are there day and night casting their lines from the top of the bridge and the restaurants and bars on the lower level always have something to offer. The bridge also is a great setting for your photographs of the city - both day and night the views and the setting are very picturesque.

“Experience Istanbul as a Local”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2014

Walking across the Galata Bridge is a great way to experience Istanbul as a local. The lower level is teeming with little eateries and, yeah, assertive "recruiters" rounding up customers, but it's part of what makes Istanbul fun. The upper deck offers great views of the city, and the railings are lined with local fisherman.

The Sultanahmet is truly lovely, with the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. The Galata Bridge provides the chance to experience Istanbul as the chaotic, wonderful place it is to the 13 million folks who call it home.

If you are a photographer, take your camera. Between the people pictures and the scenic vistas, you'll be in heaven.

“Cross the bridge on the upper level at Sunset”

Cross the bridge on the upper level at Sunset

Be aware of the restaurants downstairs resp. on the lower level. People try to pull you in with a agressivity which we didn't experience anywhere else in Istanbul. They even touched and pulled us - a clear no go.

“Very amusing with amazing views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2014

We regularly walked across the bridge from the Taksim/Istiklal side down towards Sultanahmet. The life on the bridge with all the fishermen, and the life under the bridge with the restuarament were found to be very amusing attracting a lot of people.

The view of the mosques in Sultanahmet were amazing, you couldn't see the blue mosque but nevertheless there were plenty of others that looked stunning. And the view of the Galata tower down the other side was great. Almost every angle on the bridge offered a good view of an Istanbul attraction.

At either end of the bridge were these Pomegranate Juice carts where the freshly squeezed cup cost next to nothing. Highly recommended.

The bridge does have a lot of foot traffic, but so do most other touristy places in Istanbul. We like to walk everywhere allowing us to take in so much more and we must have walked across this bridge at least once daily.

“Fun But Smelly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2014

It was fun to walk down the Galata Bridge to the New Town area of Istanbul, but the downside was the smell from the fishermen who line both sides of the bridge. If you don't like fishy smell, you may want to give this a pass. But if you like seeing some local flavor or want to eat at a fish restaurant, this bridge is worth a visit.
