We have stayed at Hotel Metropol in Istanbul in May - 2010. The Hotel is not very good. Its an average Hotel. The staff is not so friendly. Not good option in Breakfast.

The one and only good thing about the hotel is its location. Its very near to almost all the major tourist attractions in Istanbul.

After 9 days travelling through Turkey, we came back to Istanbul and the Hotel Metropol.
When we first visited Istanbul we stayed at the Erbil Hotel next door to the Metropol and were rather disappointed with that choice, so we were a bit wary of what the Metropol would provide on our return to the city. I can say though that we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were pleasant, the nights were quiet (even with the local nightlife... we had a street-facing room and it was fine), the rooms were very clean and comfortable and the pillows were of decent quality.

The only thing to worry about is the disturbing colour of pink that the rooms are decorated in... but that can be easily overlooked given the other virtues of the hotel.

Perfect choice for visiting Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, taking a boat trip on the Bosphorus... all are in walking distance.

We had not booked a hotel in Istanbul and were trying to get one near the train station. After walking past a very expensive hotel and then one which looked unlikely to be standing for much longer we saw Hotel Metropol. The manager was standing outside and welcomed us in to have a look. He showed us the room and gave us a great deal for 4 nights. He was also exceptionally helpful with advice about the best things to see in Istanbul (as well as what to avoid). As we had arrived in the morning- he gave us a free breakfast and it was great to be able to check in straight away. Istanbul was a fantastic city to see and staying at this hotel made it even more of a pleasure. It is near all the best sights, the rooms are very comfortable and clean and the staff were excellent. After having visited many hotels on our trip round Europe over the summer- this was one of the nicest and the staff were the friendliest we met.

it is close to most attractions. The room is clean and the breakfast is good.

However, there is no English TV channel though they stated so in the booklet. We contacted them, they just said that there is technical difficulty. We stayed there for one week and they never fixed it.

Besides, the staff is not friendly. We booked this hotel through the online agency gtahotels.com. We needed to cotact the agency to fix the airport transfer time, as we could not speak Turkish. They refused and gave us a number, which we had never put through however times we tried.

I stayed at the The Metropol Hotel last year on a 3 day trip to Istanbul. Great location, close to all the major attractions (10 minute walk to Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar). The rooms were were on the smaller size, but I tend not to spend a lot of time in any hotel rooms when I'm touring, so this was not a major concern. Breakfast is included in the room rate (which happened to be a very reasonable $60/night). Very basic breakfast with cereal, rolls, fruit, cold cuts, and juice. Don't miss the excellent restaurants close to the hotel (Özler Restaurant in particular). This hotel is an excellent value, highly recommend.

On the plus side, you are close to the Topkapi Palace, and thus fairly close to the center of the city sites. Also, the front desk speaks very good English which was important since we spoke no Turkish. Rates were very reasonable and the breakfast was very good with fresh fruits and vegetables, breads, cheeses, and cereals.

The hotel does not have a restaurant, but there are several very popular ones within 100 meters. We usually ate in some other areas of the city, but mostly due to our schedule and some specific recommendations that we had for places to eat.

The only real downside is that they are not able to purify their water (which is fairly common in Turkey) so that you need to bring your own water to brush teeth/drink and be sure to close your mouth in the shower! I would stay here again.
