“At Home in the Old City”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Most welcoming. Much like staying with family friends. The staff were approachable, respectfull, knowledgeable, and ready to advise/recommend. (As this was our first visit to Istanbul, we found their advice very helpful.) The morning Call to Prayer (and the first Orient Express passing by) started each day at just the right time. Our room faced the Sea of Marmara with its stream of fishing boats, cargo ships, and cruise liners. (The Breakfast Room and Roof Terrace offered even better views ... and turning around, there was the Blue Mosque.) Shops and restaurants were nearby and reached out to have our custom. An occasion to banter.Tours were available as well as a chance to do a day's course in Turkish cooking. There is so much to do in this Old City area and it can be done on foot as well. And Naz Wooden House Inn was an excellent base to start from and return to.

I recently spent a week at Naz Wooden House and thoroughly enjoyed every minute I was there. Located in a side street in the heart of the Old City, this charming little hotel is permeated with an atmosphere of history and tradition. It is a 10 minute walk to the main tourist attractions and there are several restaurants in the vicinity. I stayed in Room 3 (single room) at the front of the building. Although small by modern standards it was very comfortable with TV, air conditioning and good Wifi reception. The roof terrace has wonderful views of both the Bosphoros and Blue Mosque. Afternoon tea there after several hours sightseeing was the perfect way to unwind. However, there is more to recommend this hotel than it's location and that is the staff. They are brilliant. The afternoon manager, Hakan, was the person I saw most often. He is a mine of information and provided very useful tips and advice. Whether it was giving directions to the Grand Bazaar who organising a trip to the Black Sea, it seemed that nothing was too much trouble to arrange. Asli and Erem were equally helpful and kind. Staying at Naz Wooden House was memorable for all the right reasons and I have every intention of returning. Highly recommended.

This has been one of the best value for money choices in peak season I have made for travelling . The quaint old wooden house exterior gives you a wonderful old world feel and ambiance. It is located within 10 minute walk from major sightseeing venues and experiences and 5 minutes from viewing the Bosphoros River on the one side and the Sea of Miramar on the right . Access to Naz Wooden House could not be easier with the taxi reservation through the hotel especially after a long trans-Atlantic flight . Everyone on staff were super curteous and ultra helpful and my deep appreciation goes out to Hakan Varan one of the managers who has made my stay unforgetable with his hospitality and care of my booking arrangements and straight up nice guy honesty .Their hospitality there is highly recommended and they will provide recommendations for alternative comparable accommodations should you encounter a problem with your booking . Several great restaurants are very nearby , but I would not recommend female travelers to be unaccompanied walking alone at night as this is not Turkish custom to start with . The rooftop breakfast /Tea and viewing area is phenomenal. They also have Wi-Fi available on all levels of the building and my carrier free tablet had no problem accessing the internet for all needed trip planning and email requirements . I would stay at this hotel again definitely .

We loved this hotel. We stayed in room 7 on the top floor - 10 euro extra a night for a normal-sized room, but it was worth it. Decorations in the room were very nice. Breakfast good; Rooftop terrance has a beautiful view for breakfast and at night-time. Train below passes occasionally and is noisy. But we closed the windows and it didn't interupt our sleep. You get this amazing view on the rooftop in a v. good location for a reasonable price, perhaps because of the slight inconvenience of the train. Location good for main daytime tourist sites and at night we took the tram to the Taksim Square area. The staff are welcoming, especially the big man who works afternoons. He was kind, gave good advice and was just a really nice guy.

Room Tip: Room 7 is worth an extra 10 euro

Well actually I did not stay in Naz wooden house per se although I had breakfast there every morning. I wanted to stay there but they were full. Instead they put me in one of their other places, the Efendi apartment. The place itself is not that bad, but the location is terrible specially for a woman traveling by herself in the evening. It's just to remote for me. Yes it's not really far from Naz but the area in the evening did not make me feel safe to walk by myself in the evening although Erem I believe his name, working in Naz offered to walk me to the hotel anytime. The problem is they have telephone in that apartment for me to call them so in the evening I was afraid to leave the place. But the front desk people in Naz wooden house specially Ashli and Erem were incredibly nice . The kindness ,hospitality and service they gave me alone will make me stay there again next time and I'm definitely reccomending it to my friends and families! Thank you so much Ashli and Erem!

This hotel provided an okay stay in Istanbul.

Positives: The rooftop terrace has a wonderful view, the breakfast included hot food in addition to the typical fare, the staff was nice and helpful.

Cons: The location could have been a little better by being closer to the light rail, it was noisy at night, and most important of all the rooms were really really tiny! We had trouble managing our luggage.

Room Tip: Make sure it is a floor towards the street as the train runs behind the building which is loud at ni...

The Naz is eclectic and lovely to look at, situated in the middle of Sultanamet, within easy walking distance of most sites in Istanbul. The rooms are clean and nicely laid out, although the beds are small and you must ask for an additional blanket in order for two people to sleep in one bed. The breakfast is strictly okay. The shining light is the staff, who easily and happily will accommodate requests, answer questions and make calls to taxis, to confirm trips, etc. Hakan and Arcan should get special mention for unfailingly being nice and helpful. The outside noise is never annoying, and one gets a sense of being in the middle of it all. The terrace with view of the Blue Mosque and the Bosphorus is an additional treat.

Room Tip: Room 7 is the best view, but the front rooms are quietest.
