“THE place to stay in Istanbul”
Reviewed January 13, 2012

This little gem is right in the middle of old Istanbul and within a short walk from Sultan Ahmet square and all the major attractions of this very beautiful city - the Blue Mosque, the Aya Sofia, the Basilica Cistern, Topkapi palace.
The staff are friendly and very helpful; the breakfast, although unusual to us, was tasty and filling. The dining room looks out over the sea of Marmara and is bright and sunny.
Rooms are small but comfortable and in Istanbul you're not going to spend much time in your room anyway.
If you've ever been able to find accommodation in Europe where you don't have to climb stairs you've been very lucky, and the Naz Wooden House is no exception. You do have to climb the stairs. But don't let this put you off, because an elevator would only spoil the ambiance of this wonderful little Wooden House from the Ottoman era.
We will not hesitate to stay there again.

Room Tip: We got to stay in the largest and the smallest rooms in the house. In this case size doesn't mat...

We had stayed here as a couple in 2004 when we had a fantastic time. We decided to stay again with our two young children. Our son stayed for free in the third bed in the room and they put a camp bed in for our daughter for a very low extra charge. The ground floor room was well appointed and we had plenty of room. Some of the other rooms are rather more bijoux (we stayed in a 2 bed as a couple and it was cozy) but then, unless you are on a business trip you come to Istanbul to see the city not to stay in the hotel. If you are travelling with children, even a baby in a portacrib you should consider booking a 3 bed room.

We are heavy sleepers but the children are quite light and none of us were disturbed by the train track, the noise is slight and transient. The track is electric and suburban so it is not as though an intercity diesel is clattering by the windows. The beds are comfortable, firm enough for a good sleep without being ridiculously hard.

I did have to check in for work while I was there and the free wifi in the lobby extended to our room, had we been in one of the other rooms I would have had to work in the lobby and extending the wifi could be a point of improvement by management.

The rooms were very clean and attended to daily. Breakfast was well provisioned and very generous, the range has improved since 2004. It is served on the top floor with wonderful views over the Sea of Marmara. Our previous stay was in the Summer and we had been able to eat on the terrace which has divine views.

Complimentary coffee and cake is served on the top floor until midnight every evening and is a welcome extra. Laundry (we had been holidaying for 10 days by the time we arrived) is cheap and efficient.

Staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating. Our flight was delayed but there were no problems with our pick up - I just called the hotel to let them know. If travelling as a couple the airport pick up is expensive as the tram is a simple, quick and easy alternative. If you are travelling with young children or many bags the pick up is worthwhile.

We would return to the hotel on any future trip to Istanbul.

Room Tip: If you are very sensitive to noise avoid the larger rooms at the back of the hotel. If you want mor...

I just got back last night and i felt compelled to write a good review. I highly recommend this hotel.

I actually WASN'T supposed to stay here. I actually booked their sister hotel, Deniz houses, but was moved here because they were overbooked. Obviously when i heard this upon my arrival i was annoyed and exhausted from traveling. But the Naz is just down the street and it was amazing anyway.

The lobby is small, but cozy. Authentically turkish with traditional rugs and furniture as decor. It was really welcoming and warm. The staff is warm, helpful and EXTREMELY friendly.

The rooms are small, but it's not like you're going to be living there. Small, but well furnished and like i said before, warm. I felt really comfortable and at home in this room. The roof provides a good view and the breakfast is basic, but nice.

If you're into really touristy stuff then the location is great, perfect even! because its a 5-10 minute walk away from the blue mosque and a 20-25 minute walk from the grand bazaar, BUT i had turkish friends who i met up with in Taksim nearly every night of my stay. Where ACTUAL turkish people hang out in nice bars, restaurants, clubs, shops, etc. It's about a 30 minute cab ride away, so even though i loved the Naz, i would book a hotel in Taksim if i ever go back to istanbul because its essentially where i spent all my time.

Its a REALLY good bang for your buck because i paid 165 euros for the WEEK and most places you would pay that for a semi decent place for the NIGHT. incredible value. I live in Paris so a place THIS good for THAT much was unreal.

i would HIGHLY suggest you stay here. Its a really great hotel. Unique, nice, great location, friendly people, overlooks the sea, and great price!

you really couldn't ask for better :)

Visited for three nights in late Nov/early Dec 2011. Arrived on overnight flight at 05:30 but no problem checking in which was great. Stayed in room number 1, which though I was travelling alone was spacious enough for 2. It was right beside a mosque so no need for an alarm clock but that was part of the charm. The train line outside is noisy but the trains are few and far between so was not an issue for me and slept well. Breakfast on the top floor was nice but the best part of Naz (apart from the friendly service at reception) is the location - a few minutes walk from the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya and about 100 yards from a nightly Whirling Dervishes show. Istanbul is a magnificent city, safe, friendly, great for walking or jumping on the tram or boats on the Bospherous. Naz Wooden Houses is an excellent place to stay to access all Istanbul has to see and do.

My sister and I spent one night in Naz Wooden House Inn in Istanbul in September 2011. We had originally wanted to book into this hotel but it was full, we were then booked into their sister hotel but there was an issue with the plumbing in our room and so we were taken by taxi to Naz Wooden House - I guess I got my original wish.
The hotel has been decorated in a distinctly Turkish style and has a warm, welcoming homely feel. The bedroom we shared was on the small side but very tastefully decorated with attractive stone walls. The bathroom was small but pretty clean (as I had read in other reviews, there was a bit of mould around the shower cubicle but nothing unmanageable).

The hotel comprises a lovely breakfast room and above that, a fantastic roof terrace with lovely views across Istanbul. We ate breakfast alfresco which was really lovely.

The staff were very helpful and accommodating.

I guess the only drawback with this hotel would be if you are claustrophobic. Other than that, book without hesitation.

Room Tip: If you're sharing a double room, I'd ask if there's a roomy one or one where you can at...

We stayed at this amazing place between Nov 11 to Nov 13 2011. The key POSITIVES of this place are:

1. The view of the Marmara Sea as well as Blue Mosque from the terrace as well as breakfast area at the top of the hotel is the best thing about this place. YOU MUST GO UP THE NARROW IRON SPIRAL STAIRCASE LEADING UP TO THE TERRACE FROM THE BREAKFAST AREA. DO NOT MISS THIS PLEASE.YOU CAN TAKE AMAZING PICTURES FROM THERE (IF YOU CAN BRAVE THE COLD LIKE WE DID!!).
2. The next best thing is the simple but good continental complimentary breakfast spread on offer in the morning. you have a very good view of the Marmara Sea from the breakfast area.
3.Our top floor BLUE ROOM was quite large (had a double bed as well as a separate single bed).
4. Naz is located just around 4 to 5 minutes by walking away from Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia. An amazing location.
5. We slept very well on all nights. However some light sleepers may have a problem in sleeping when the train passes. This is a very small issue however.
6. Mr Ozay, the manager of this place was very polite and helpful.

The only NEGATIVE IS:
1. we paid 90 euros per night for the BLUE ROOM which is the best room at Naz, we were told. however, the views of the marmara sea from this room were average or mediocre.Instead, we now realize we should have taken a cheaper room at naz in the lower floors because the best view is from the terrace area and not from the best room (THE BLUE ROOM). keeping this in mind, we found staying in the Blue Room a bit too expensive.

Room Tip: Try taking a cheaper room here instead of the blue room which though large and roomy does not have a...

This hotel is in an area in Sultanahmet between the Blue Mosque and the Bosphorus. From the roof terrace you can enjoy good views of both. The area consists of narrow, hilly, cobbled streets full of old Ottoman buildings many of which are being carefully restored mostly in the traditional style. Driving in these lanes is not for the faint hearted! The room was pleasant, decorated in what I imagine to be a fairly traditional style with modern comforts. Breakfast was good, and coffee and tea was available in the afternoon too. Staff were courteous and helpful. It is conveniently located for local attractions, The Blue Mosque, Topkapı, Hagia Sofia, and there is transport nearby to virtually everywhere else you might want to see on a first visit to Istanbul, although a lot of Istanbul can be enjoyed on foot. The hotel is situated between the Blue Mosque and Akbıyık Camii, a smaller local mosque. The amplified call to prayer from both, almost simultaneously, acts as an alarm clock and adds to the local colour. The only one small drawback is that a busy railway line runs next to the back of the hotel and can be a little noisey at times. Nevertheless I would recommend this hotel.
