Owner description: This city square is the heart of the modern section of Istanbul. Many hotels and restaurants can be found here, and it is also the gathering place for locals to celebrate New Year's Eve.

This is part of the Beyoglu neighborhood. I loved the area, its modern, clean, people of all ages and countries. I felt very comfortable.

Istanbul - a heart of Turkey. In Taksim Square you will find so many restaurants, that you cannot imagine. Taksim never sleeps; here all the time people are moving, running, doing business.
I recommend this place for all those tourists which are for the first time in Istanbul.
Dozen of restaurant and hotels in this area - from the 2 stars hotel to 5stars+ hotels. If you really looking to taste the Turkish flavors, this is the right place. I love this city !

As central squares go this is no Trafalgar, Times or St Mark's but it has symbolic importance for Turkey and we even witnessed a small demonstration.
It is probably not at its best at the moment due to construction work. The pigeons seem to be a permanent feature unfortunately.

Walk down the pedestrian street for all the normal retail shops. There are so many different places to eat. The most interesting places can be found down the side streets and alleys. Great if you love to take photos as there are some unusual sights to see. You can walk all the way down to the river from here.
