Owner description: This city square is the heart of the modern section of Istanbul. Many hotels and restaurants can be found here, and it is also the gathering place for locals to celebrate New Year's Eve.

The square takes its name from the Ottoman era stone reservoir which is located in this area.Taksim is a main transportation hub and a popular destination for both tourists and the native population of Istanbul. İstiklal Caddesi a long pedestrian shopping street, ends at this square, and a nostalgic tram runs from the square along the avenue, ending near the Tünel which is the world's second-oldest subway line after

My stay in istanbul in one of the hostel in heart of sqaure. guys do not miss the good food, architecture, local shops, alongwith mcdys and burgerkings... the place to be if u in istanbul. Try Baklava retsuarant for its good price and tasty authentic turkish food. the area gets too much crowded in weekends and evening,... but thats what I wanted.

This is your average roundabout, only with a statue in the middle. The square leads down to Istiklal cad, which happens to not be worth the trip. Stay away! Crowded and expensive!

Istanbul is a city with a great History, but one should not miss the life of the modern Istanbul either!
If you choose a hotel near Taksim, you can take the subway to visit the Historic Area the day, and enjoy Taksim in the evening.

There are lots of modern shops, places to eat, coffee places, ... It is a crazy area, take the time to get lost in the side streets and see all the commercial activity during the day.
At night, you can have a shisha everywhere and also just wander on the main street, and listen to which music sounds the most attractive to you to pick your place! A lot of apartments have been transformed in bars, where the atmosphere is great, mostly with live music, so don't look only on the ground floor, because you have bars up to the 4th floor!

Personal tip: The Crab Bar for live turkish rock music!
