Owner description: Famed architect Sinan built this majestic structure for one of the greatest rulers of the Ottoman Empire. Although this mosque is less ornate, there are many similarities between it and the Hagia Sophia since the same architect was responsible for both.

You can't help but be impressed at the sheer scale of Sinan's creation and the surrounding buildings.

The calmness engendered by the clearly defined lines of the structure that did not intrude into the massive space. This fine ss of line extended into the courtyard and also the minarets which were sublime

We felt that this was the most stunning of the 3 largest mosques with a peaceful, less touristy atmosphere. Arrived just after Friday prayers but made to feel welcome by locals. This is a simply stunning place to see.

Less busy and crowded than the Blue Mosque, and all the more stunning for it. The location was wonderful, and the views over the city from the North West corner of the garden were amazing. A shame that (as with many other Mosques at the moment) the tombs to the rear are closed for renovation, and rather surprisingly we were charged 5TYL entrance. I have absolutely no problem paying, but it was the one and only time this happened.

I didn't look at my map very closely, so I wandered up the hill the mosque is on to find it. It is a steep climb, but the view from the grounds is fantastic. It is a lovely mosque.
