“Charm and simplicity in a perfect location”

I picked her from the Internet, and could not have been happier. This is not a fancy place, but its a welcome retreat from a busy day of touring just a stones throw from the Blue Mosque. There is a wonderful bakery in the block, great inexpensive food in walking distance. The Ikea bed could use some reinforcement. But I highly recommend this quaint spot for a long weekend.

Very good stay here in June 2012. The hotel is down a quiet street, just off a road with dozens of lovely restaurants and cafes, and the the location is an easy walk to the main attractions in Sultanahmet - Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar - and the tram to the boats! We were in a room overlooking the bay out to the Black Sea, it was clean and well-serviced though sparse, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and it was very affordable - what more could you ask for?

My cousin who has been to this hotel 5 times booked the hotel as she loves staying here. And I could see why. Location wise it is on a quiet cul de sac just off one of the main streets in Sultanahmet. So while you have cafes and restaurants practically on the doorstep (50m), they are far enough away so it is peaceful. Handy when some local musicians are playing the drums on a saturday night on the main strip and as soon as you close the door of the hotel you can't hear it. When I checked in the man at reception was very helpful, he gave me the hotel card which explained where we were located and then a city map, yet again pointing out where the hotel was and closest trams stops and the sites. The room itself looked out to the sea and so with the 'super moon' that occurred during my stay the view of the sea was equally magical at night as it was during the day. I liked that the rooms had names as opposed to numbers. The twin room wasn't big but it was big enough for our needs. It was clean and the bathroom was a good size with a powerful and clean shower and hair dryer. Breakfast was lovely and the sitting area was so relaxing. The resident cat(absolutely beautiful) would make an appearance, never in an intrusive way just would sit somewhere and sleep. Hotel booked airport shuttle for me, you can get it for €5. The rooftop seating area is a treat, you can see the Blue Mosque and perfect for warming your bones reading the paper or a book. Speaking of books there is an book exchange library opposite reception. The hotel was 5/10 mins walk to the nearest tram stop and it was just a pleasure to stay here. Granted I'm someone who doesn't spend alot of time in my room on holiday or hanging around a hotel but was perfect for our needs and liked that one morning we took a very long breakfast and wasn't disturbed, it was perfectly relaxing. I would definitely stay here again if I returned.

You get great value for the money you spend at Poem Hotel. The beds are basic and the rooms run small, but it's very clean and the views from the breakfast patio are supurb. Fantastic spread for breakfast, and the staff was very helpful with arranging a shuttle to the airport. Getting there after dark feels a little shady, as you have to take a poorly-lit road behind the Hagia Sophia, but as long as you are with a group, it's probably fine. The restaurants in the area are all tourist traps, but if you're really hungry, they'll do in a pinch. To sum up, the rooms are nothing fancy, but the breakfast makes you feel like you spent hundreds of dollars to stay there, between the views and the food. Book it!

Poem Hotel is a comfortable place to stay, in a great location - just a few minutes walk from a number of great sites, such as Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace. Loads of restaurants in the locality. Hotel rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean, while breakfast is good.

A nice, small hotel in the busy Sultanhamet area. The staff are friendly, the breakfast was nice and the view is lovely. The rooms are a bit small and lifeless, but very clean, functional and comfortable. They also have a friendly cat, the fluffiest cat in all of Istanbul for sure.

I think this is good value for $ but then it seems that the area is well over priced. Still a great view, near all the major sites by 5 minute walk and good service.

A small (16 rooms) hotel, but in a unique environment between the great mosques and the sea - surrounded by other small hotels and many restaurants.

Our room was quite small but perfectly adequate with good-sized shower room and powerful shower. The room was clean and everything was in good order, although I struggled to understand the point of a small safe that could be locked, but could also be picked up and carried away - as it was not bolted down to anything. The bed was very comfortable and the TV had BBC World, which made a pleasant change from our recent experience in NY where it was difficult to avoid Fox.

Breakfast was good if not great. Don't arrive too late or there may be no omelette/scrambled egg left.

The star of the hotel is Hamuk, the long-haired cat which looks a bit like a rug and who has eyes of different colours. There is something about Istanbul and cats - as the very many strays appear to be well fed and unafraid of humans.

Room Tip: Rooms are are a variety of sizes and shapes and some much bigger than others, but value is good for...
