What a fab place to stay. Located in the old town of Istanbul, moments away from restaurants, bars and sightseeing, this is a perfect place to stay for a mini break in Istanbul.

We booked the 2 bedroom apartment between friends and it was absolutely perfect for what we needed. We spent a lot of time outside of the hotel but when we came back it was a lovely sanctuary to put our feet up, sit on the terrace and watch the world go by.

A little bit noisy, due to outside traffic, but otherwise, great little stylish hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights, when we arrived after a looong flight from Sydney that arrived at 9am. As our room was still occupied (I think check out is 11am) the staff were extremely helpful and booked us into a hammam that was about 15 minutes walk away- great way to fill in a couple of hours til we could get into our room . This was our first visit to Istanbul and Empress Zoe is close to many wonderful sites -Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Haghia Sophia, Grand Bazaar etc are all very close. Breakfast has lots of choice and was delicious and the garden dining area is lovely. The staff are all helpful in a genuine way (ie they are not just trying to sell a product). This area of Istanbul is very commercial and you are constantly harassed on the street to buy stuff.

On our return trip after we had been to Cappadocia we stayed in Beyoglu and when we go back to Istanbul we will probably stay in Beyoglu, it’s still very commercial but not so full of touts peddling tourist stuff..

We loved our 6 nights at this hotel. Positioned in the old & historic area, high on the hill with views on the top terrace of the Bosphorus. The hilly streets outside are narrow & cobbled, with many restaurants to choose from. The location is excellent with Topkapi, Blue mosque and Aya Sophia all a short 5 minute walk away. Trams and taxis are also close by for seeing other areas of Istanbul. The rooms are comfortable and breakfasts in the garden terrace delightful. Great to come back to each evening, have a drink from the bar and sit on one of the terraces before heading out for an evening meal. The staff are great and the spiral stairs are not a problem.

The Empress Zoe is a lovely small hotel with the most beautiful garden where you can escape after a day of touring hectic Istanbul -- enjoy breakfast in the morning, afternoon tea, or a great glass of wine. My room was very small BUT very economical -- so after walking around Istanbul I'd enjoy the garden and plan the next day. The hotel is located walking distance to all the key sights -- Blue Mosque, St Sofia's, Tokapi Palace, Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar. The owners, Ann and Vetik, are charming and have a first class operation. Lovely breakfast in the morning in the indoor or outdoor dining area. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful -- getting you a tour, taxi, or giving advice on what you might like to see. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Room Tip: The single small room I had was very noisy since it fronted to the street -- but the hotel advised m...

Having spent 5 nights at the Empress Zoe during the month of May, I cannot praise it enough as it is one of the hidden gems of the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul. The staff could not have been more friendly, courteous and helpful with a warm welcome that never flagged over our stay. Given all the demands that we made upon them, they never wavered in their assistance! Our room overlooked the lovely private garden area which serves as both a breakfast dining alternative and a place to have a glass of wine in complete serenity before dinner. Our room was spacious (room 602) and the adjoining bath incorporated all the elements of a traditional hammam but with modern touches that made it delightful to use. Breakfast is also a delight with an excellent combination of Turkish and traditional options, all of which are healthy and tasty. The hotel is located near many restaurants which the staff capably recommended. They even recommended one of the best rug shops in Istanbul where we managed to score two beautiful kilims. All in all, this was a superb choice for us...a tranquil retreat in the heart of bustling Istanbul. I would only add that the hotel may not be ideal for the physically challenged as the spiral staircase to the guest rooms could be a challenge for some. The staff will deliver your bags to the room so that is not a concern, however. All in all, we adored the hotel!

Room Tip: Room 602 was spacious and had an unusual bath that incorporated a traditional hammam.

This hotel was a little bit more expensive than some of the options were researched but the reviews were so great and the pictures were so gorgeous that we decide to go for it. I'm so glad we did! It is the most charming place with great food and tons of classy turkish charm. The details were incredible and the staff was so knowledgeable and helpful, especially Leyla! There is also an amazing roofdeck with fantastic views. Would absolutely stay here next time I am in Istanbul.

We chose the Zoe on the recommendation of a co-worker having stayed there a couple years back. The location is excellent if you’re looking to be in the heart of the historic area…it’s a very short walk to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and Topkapi Palace, public transportation is nearby and there’s a cab stand just at the end of the street. Also, there are many restaurants from which to choose in the streets surrounding the hotel; they all cater primarily to tourists, but some have quite decent food. We chose the hotel’s airport pick-up (25 euros charged to the room) on arrival and took a cab back to the airport on departure (with tip and paying with Turkish Lira, it worked out to be about 18 euros). The staff at the hotel were incredibly friendly and welcoming across the board and made us feel very at home. Our room was in the old building on the 3rd floor, a triple room with 3 single beds. The room was tight with just two people, but had a nice bathroom, closets, air conditioning, double-pane windows (good for blocking sound) and a mini fridge. There was no TV in our room. We also found wi-fi to be hit and miss throughout the hotel from both iOS and Android devices, though some others we spoke to said they had no issues. Breakfast was excellent and the bar/breakfast room and gardens were wonderful. We used the Express Laundry location around the corner to have some clothes washed, as this was a mid-point of our trip and had some issues with timeliness and quality of work from them (one shirt was ruined with some form of black residue on it and two others had detergent stains that had to be manually cleaned out)…that’s nothing to hold against the hotel, just good information to know. It also is good to be aware that the first level of access to the rooms is a small tight circular staircase…the hotel porter will happily carry your luggage up and down, but if you have difficulty with stairs, these could present a challenge. We’d definitely return to the Zoe and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: If you go, we’d say ask for a room in one of the newer buildings; as we snooped around during our st...
