“Don't pay extra for a duty view”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

Overall the hotel is ok. I'd say a good 3*, but noway a 4*!
We arrived late on Friday. Reception were over concerned about us having a double bed and offered us a room change. When we complained about the room size and view they became rude and dismissive. Suffice to say the room change never happened!
We decided not to pursue as wanted a chilled weekend, but were far from happy.
Photo of our city view attached. We paid an extra £20 per night for this.
Breakfast was limited, but location was excellent.
Istanbul is a wonderful vibrant city and the hotel experience didn't taken anything away.

Room Tip: Think of it as a good three star and don't pay any extras.

First experience of the Antik was not good as the cab I had ordered didn't materialise at the airport (although my bill had been charged). Staff at the hotel unsympathetic, and then delivered my bag to the wrong room.

My room was dark and small, tiny window and a great big pillar blocking out most of the light. In the night I was woken up by condensation dripping from the A/C. Other people I travelled with also had very small rooms - fine as a solo traveller but would be cramped for two, and lighting was very low-key - it would have been difficult to work in the room.

BUT ... the room was incredibly clean and the maids are lovely (shame about the front of house and downstairs bar staff who are sulky and unhelpful ... oddly enough the staff in the rooftop bar are great).

The location of the hotel is excellent - down a side street (so quite quiet) but close the the Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque, Cisternia, etc. There are also plenty of minimarket s in the area so DON'T buy anything from the minibar as you can buy it within 50metres of the hotel at all hours at around 1/4 of the price! Area surrounding the hotel is very busy so it feels very safe even late at night (keep an eye on your handbag though). Free WiFi.

There is a 5th century cisternia underneath the hotel and what looked like a cool basement bar but it was always shut during the 4 days I stayed at the hotel, although we did sneak down for a look at the cisternia couple of times - it really is fabulous.

Never found the sauna mentioned on the website though.

Breakfast is served on the roof terrace. Awesome views and lovely food which is always a bit different each day. In the eveniing the terrace becomes a restaurant/nar (happy hour from 5pm-7pm - worth knowing!) and you can watch the sun set while you drink your g&t which sort of made up for everything else.

Room Tip: The higher the better to avoid street noise

Stayed at Antik Hotel twice while on tour of Turkey. Is in good location close to Grand Bazaar, tram, money changers and ATM's. Walking distance to Blue Mosque, Hagua Sophia Museum etc. Our only issue was that like most hotels in Turkey they are not able to accommodate triple share adequately. Given a small double room with extra bed which meant only one person could move around comfortably at a time. Bathroom small but adequate. Good breakfast in rooftop restaurant included. Air conditioning struggled with cooling.

Excellent, spacious rooms, !very clean!, very nice and polite staff, beautiful rooftop restaurant, beautiful exhibition hall in the cellar with preserved roman pillars from the early Byzantine period, and very near all the places to visit in Istanbul (within walking distance)!

Great location; within walking distance to main attractions and the Metro. Rooms quite small, but comfortable and clean. We stayed there twice and were on a different floor each time. Each floor has characteristics of different periods in history. the hotel is located above an underground cisterna, which was discovered when they built the hotel, and is now a most interesting restaurant. You can see some of the artifacts found at the site, which was very interesting. The rooftop restaurant is lovely, with views of the sea, and it was nice to sit there in the evening for daily 'happy hour' and later for dinner. They arranged an early breakfast for us on the day we left for our tour of Gallipoli and Troy, which was appreciated. The receptionist was exceptionally caring, helpful and friendly, and one of the waiters was also exceptionally caring and friendly.

Room Tip: We found the room we had on the 4th floor was better than the one we had on the 1st floor. The one...

This hotel was one of several in a brochure supplied from our travel agent.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful. However this did not make up for the fact that we were given the worst room in the house.(We have struck this before as New Zealanders comparing with family who have booked the same sort of standard room from the UK)
It was really tiny and had a giant pillar in the middle which restricted movement around the room.
It being July ,we had made sure we had air-conditioning ,Istanbul was very very hot and the air conditioning just did not work. Not only that but it dripped all over the floor after an attempt to improve it by the hotel handyman. The toilet and bathroom were also tiny and old looking.
I will never go back there again !
