Dear reader, if you are in for a few nights down town Istanbul – go for Vardar !! It is centrally placed and closed to city centre. It offers you value for money, i.e. do not expect 5 star category hotel but a hotel that will accommodate your to a satisfactory level and at a reasonable price. The room is for “staying the night and have some breakfast – and out the door” !! It is very well located near by the shopping area with an easily access to the waterfront and other places of interest in Istanbul. When we will be going back to Istanbul again, we will definitely re-book with Vardar. You will not regret this :o)

Clean rooms in a great location and adequate breakfast. Greatest negative is the staff who were in no hurry to be of service never mind helpful. Bring an extension cord if you carry electronic gear as 3 of the 4 outlets did not work. Also a map of the area because the staff does not provide them. They were even reluctant to arrange for a 3:30am cab to the airport.

I would highly reccomend this hotel. It is n the middle of the city and close to virtually every tourist location. Hotel is very clean and the staff is friendly. here is free wi-fi internet connection and an excellnt Turkish breakfast with feta chesse and green and black olives.

This hotel is in a great location. I have stayed in Sultanahmet before and the Taxim area is a far better place to stay.
As others have pointed out, this is NOT a 4-star hotel; it might scrape a 3 on a good day but certainly nothing more. It's a bit smelly and grubby but generally pretty clean. The toilet brush in our room was disgusting though. The room was a good size, and was at the back so it was nice and quiet.
The breakfast is pretty good but the staff should try cracking a smile occasionally. The same goes for the reception staff, though they were helpful when approached.
All things considered, this hotel is in a great location and at the right price I would recommend it.

Vardar Palace has 4 stars so at least one could suppose that the hotel has a friendly staff and good service. We stayed there for 5 nights and made the reservation at least 6 months before. We asked a quiet room so they gave us a room in the 5th floor. The window in the room was to the inner shaft of the building. So the main view was bricks... And still the narby disco gave us some tunes in the night. The staff was very tired and bored to all questions we made. Despite of the 4star rating the hotel does not have any kind of restaurant service or a bar. Only the breakfast room. This hotel is not a 4 star accommodation, it should have 2 stars.

Vardar Palace is situated in the city center and therefore it has a very central location considering the local life. And that is good. Although the main sights of Istanbul are on the other side of the town.

And -by the way- thanks to the cleaner. He gave us a smile.

Traveled with a friend – great room with two beds, tall ceilings, fridge and closet space. Mini bar prices were decent (4L beer, 2L water). Full 24 hour room service (4L grilled cheese). Free breakfast until about 10:30am: hard boiled eggs, pancake type things, lots of toast and cheese, yogurt, cereal, jams/etc, tea and coffee. In the best location if you want to sight see during the day (most of the mosques/sights are across the Golden Horn) and be out with a lively crowd at night. We stayed for a week and did not have to take transportation at all – could easily walk to and from the “old town” (although, the walk home is pretty much straight up hill). The staff was there when you needed them and provided whatever information you ask for. Only had conversations with one of the three attendants, but he spoke English quite well and was friendly. Rooms were well cleaned every day. Shampoo/hair dryer in bathroom and enough towels. Free internet in lobby. I would definitely go back.

I was pleasantly surprised by both the hotel and the Taksim area, after having spent 4 days in Sultanahmet. Vardar Palace truly looks like an old palace from the inside, yet the rooms are modern and well-equipped. My window was facing a corridor but I knew it when booking.
The main shopping street and busy nightlife of Taksim are just a few steps away from the hotel. It's amazing how the streets and restaurants are full of people till the early hours! There is a nice night club called Riddim (Rn'B mostly) very close to the hotel. For self-catering (the hotel rooms have refridgerators), Carrefour is on the same street.

The breakfast room of the hotel was very cosy but quite hot (or maybe I was sweating because I was ill during my stay). There is a computer in the lobby for free internet browsing. For great views over Istanbul, go to the rooftop terrace.
