If you're looking for a charming hotel in the heart of old istanbul within walking distance to the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sofia, the underground cistern, the grand bazar and the spice market, then this is the place for you.

The hotel is easily accessible from the metro from Ataturk Interational Airport which will save you a bit of money on taxis. And although the hotel isn't cheap, it's completely worth the price because of its central location and charm. The rooms are decorated very beautifully and the staff is responsive to any concerns or questions you might have. We found that the staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and happy during our stay. The reservation and booking manager is also extremely professional and quick to respond.

Overall, this hotel was an excellent choice and well worth the cost. And there is also a very nice breakfast spread included which you can eat sitting at a table outside on the side of the quaint streets of the old town.

We stayed at the Kybele for 4 nights and cannot imagine staying anywhere else. This charming hotel is situated in the heart of the old part of town, steps from the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. The lobby is decorated with antiques as are the rooms. I was really surprised at how clean and orderly everything was. There were 4 of us in a room which was somewhat cramped but manageable. We initially had the triple room with a cot which really was challenging to fit our suitcases in but we switched to the family room with 2 balconies which was very spacious and even had a sitting area. We were really surprised at how comfortable the beds were. The showers were adequate but we had quite a few temperature fluctuations. Bring shampoo/conditioner/lotion if you are picky. They have disposers in the shower but the quality is iffy. We never heard any noise from the other guests to the walls must be pretty thick. There are no elevators so if you have issues with steps, better look elsewhere. Breakfast is included in the price and was exactly what you would expect. We ate dinner here twice and were really pleased with the quality of the food and the service. The staff at this hotel really enhanced our stay. They were so friendly and helpful. We felt like they were family by the end of our stay. The owner also owns the boutique and rug store next door. We purchased 5 rugs from him and feel that we got great quality rugs for a fair price (no bartering). I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return myself one day. On a side note, I would NOT recommend the Turkish Mytic Music and Dance - total waste of money and time. We did enjoy a turkish bath at the Suleymanie Hamam which appeared very clean and was a unique experience. Instead of a tourist cruise up the Bosphoros we took the public ferry which was really cheap and a lot of fun.

I am very glad that I listened to a friend's advice to stay in the Kybele Hotel in the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul. The hotel is quite literally steps away from the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Basilica Cistern. A few more steps away and you are in the Grand Bazaar, or in the Spice Bazaar, or on the dock to board a cruise boat on the Bosphorus Strait, or on the Galata Bridge. For efficiency in sightseeing, you can't beat this location especially if you only have 2 and a half days as we did.

As for the Kybele Hotel itself, it is hard not to be taken in by its character. The hotel is tastefully decorated and distinctive because of the 4,000 colorful lamps that adorn all the ceilings - yes, that includes your bedroom. The lounge is a very welcoming oasis where you can just sit, drink tea, and reflect on the awe-inspiring city that is Istanbul. The service is very friendly and efficient. The rooms are smallish but clean and comfortable and they do not have televisions. But if you are a serious tourist in Istanbul, you probably won't spend much time in your room nor would you be watching TV anyway.

I would recommend this hotel very highly. And while in Istanbul, do indulge in the sweets that abound.

The Kybele hotel is famous for its unique atmosphere, plenty of Turkish lamps everywhere (in each and every room), cozy furniture and great staff. It's also very well located in the heart of old Istanbul (Sophia, Blue Mosque etc. are about 1-2 minutes to walk). If you really want to feel the nature of Istanbul the Kybele art hotel is the best choice, trust me ))

The Kybele is famous for its lamps. All rooms have a special light, due to 50 or more Lamps per room on the floor. The Lobby and the Cafe are also very tasteful with loads of old things like grammophon, old cameras, books and so on. The basic colour inside is red, the outside walls are green, blue – all very colourful. They have a very beautiful bibliothek in tibetan-gypsy-style and the owner, Maik, is a very friendly turkish guy married with a german, talking very good english and even german. You can always have a tea with him. The breakfast is pretty good and the staff are okay, The Hotel is very close to Hagiasophia, although it is not in the typical Hotel Area. Only a few meters away is the Cayaoyglu Hamam or what was the name? Well, try it, it is not everybodys favorite kind of massage. All in all – a special Hotel with a nice owner.
