There are a lot of museums, ferries, boats and beautiful views to enjoy along the Golden Horn. You can keep your family busy for a day or two just in this area. Don't miss it!

This is a place and while you can do things on and near it, it isn't an attraction in the sense of most on this list. It is a busy place. There is a lot of commercial use of the waterway. There are those who commute across it on ferries and see daily what we tourists pay to enjoy. And we did pay for a dinner cruise that allowed views of the shoreline and hillsides of not only the Golden Horn but also the Bosporus. And what you are seeing is not only a modern city but also historic structures in a city that is located here because of this harbor. We have visited Istanbul before but the view from the Golden Horn added to our appreciation for this great city.

The Golden Horn is an inlet of the Bosphorus dividing the city of Istanbul and forming a natural harbor . It is a scimitar-shaped estuary that joins the Bosphorus just at the point where that strait enters the Sea of Marmara, thus forming a peninsula the tip of which is the ancient Byzantion and - then - Constantinople.
You can take a a boat for a ride. I recommend you to take it at sunset to watch the water turning into liquid gold, with the distant prayers of the muezzin and sipping a glass of good turkish tea offered by the shipping company.

Golden horn is just a small gulf in European side of Istanbul, unfortunately the water is polluted and the coasts are dirty. I prefer Bosphorous in many ways.
If you want to take a tour with boat it will be Ok but make sure that they will also bring you the Bosphorous.

The view is great but unless you want to be harassed by the employees of the cafes on the lower level, avoid it. You can rent fishing poles and gear atop the bridge and fish! (But don't expect to bring in any large trophy fish, they're all small) :-)
