I really liked the location of this hotel. Many people said, "Oh, you're staying in the tourist area." Well, yeah, that's what we were.
The Sari Konak is located in the Old City in a building that was once, I imagine, a private town home for a wealthy citizen (though for the life of me, I can't find any history) in a neighborhood full of the same - town homes that have been converted to small hotels. The neighborhood is charming to walk around in, quiet at night, and not heavily trafficked, except by the occasional tourist bus.
We could walk to numerous sights (Hagia Sophia, blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and the Arasta Bazaar). The tram was also close by and easy to navigate to other parts of the Sultanahmet. There were LOTS of restaurants within a couple of blocks of the hotel and so many more a 10 - 15 minute walk away.
My husband and I spent 5 nights here on our first visit to Istanbul. Our room, no. 604, was on the third floor, was quite large and spacious, with a king size bed that was very comfortable and firm (new?) and three armchairs, so we weren't confined to sitting on the bed. The bathroom was also nicely sized for a hotel bath. Everything was very clean. The bed linens were a very nice quality. Our two enormous windows opened so we could enjoy fresh air. The staff, from the desk to the housekeepers, was very friendly and helpful when we needed help. Breakfast was substantial, with eggs, meats, cheeses, fruit, and cereal as well as lots of local breads.
I would not only recommend this hotel to others but will probably stay here again if we have the opportunity to return to Istanbul.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at this gem of a hotel. A wonderful experience. As we have holiday apartments in Luxor, Egypt we know how important it is to keep your guests happy and to help them have an enjoyable holiday. The Sari Konak and the staff do just that.
The hotel is only a few minutes walk from all the sites in Sultanamet and local transport is also nearby. Lots of restaurants so close at hand and many shops even next door with great staff! Always had a chat and a laugh with them as we went out and returned.
Our deluxe room 203 was lovely with plenty space for 2 of us. Always kept clean. We appreciated the tea/coffee making as a good cup of tea is what you need after all the sights of Istanbul.
Lots of Turkish touches around the hotel with large pots, brass work and beautiful pictures in all rooms and corridors.
Breakfast was plentiful and tasty---juice, tea/coffee, lots of fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, cold meats, cheeses, olives, tomato, cucumber, 2 hot dishes such as scrambled eggs, sausage, cheese/tomato, toast, jams, honey ect.
Don t forget to go on the roof terrace which is a haven of tranquility with superb views of Blue Mosque and the sea and comfortable seating.
Staff at the Sari Konak were all excellent, so pleasant. Any query was quickly answered. Thankyou to Mustafa and Essam and all the staff for making our first visit to Istanbul an enjoyable one.
Inshallah we will be back as Egypt is not too far away for us to travel.

Room Tip: Book a deluxe or suite if you want that extra space and tea making

A fantastic hotel. We visited in March 2013 with a family group of nine that took up four rooms. All rooms had character, comfortable beds and were clean. Location was walking distance to the sights and had a variety of restaurants close by. The breakfast included fresh fruit and local fare that pleased everyone - including my three year old who tends to be a picky eater. The staff were genuine and assisted us with arranging transport (at reasaonable rates) within town and between the airport. Possibly most important of all we felt safe.

We had such a wonderful time in Istanbul and it was definitely helped by staying at the excellent Hotel Sari Konak. We booked late so only family suite 502 was available and I was nervous of what we might find since no pictures were available of these rooms. I needn’t have worried. We had a small but very nicely furnished master room and our sons had a good twin room. The bathroom was beautiful with an antique tiled floor and under floor heating and we even had our own lounge with refrigerator, tea/coffee tray with kettle and TV. For a family stay we couldn’t have asked for more. The whole hotel is beautifully furnished with antiques and local crafts and the rooftop terrace is stunning. Lovely patio furniture and plants and what views! There’s even a covered conservatory so you can still soak in the views and play backgammon if the weather isn’t good enough to sit out. Breakfasts were excellent with fruits, yogurt and local cheeses, olives, salads, salamis, hot eggs and Vienna-style sausages. Watch out for the spicy scrambled eggs and don’t miss trying the gorgeous walnut cake. I loved the sheltered Byzantine courtyard garden. Very romantic; shame the fountain wasn’t working while we were there. I’m not sure I agree with Kristen’s review about being treated like a tourist. We found the staff welcoming and helpful (if anything they were a little low key) and we were delighted with the Istanbul street map they handed us on arrival - it proved very useful. The location of the hotel simply could not be better. It’s 15 minutes to Topkapi, 5 minutes to Sultanahmet square and 2 minutes to the Arasta bazaar, one of the best places that we came across in Istanbul for local crafts and gifts. Round the corner is a useful little grocery. The hotel is also opposite the highly-rated Dubb restaurant and there are plenty of other restaurants around. Despite being right in the heart of things, we found the hotel quiet and the only disruption was the call to prayer at 5.20 each morning but then... that’s all part of the Sultanahmet experience.

I have so many wonderful things to say about Hotel Sari Konak. The location is fantastic, the room was comfortable/clean and breakfast was lovely. My one complaint is that we were treated like true tourists which I didn't appreciate. In Istanbul you are constantly being approached by store-owners, restaurants, etc and it can be exhausting - not to mention having to make sure your taxi driver isn't trying to over charge you. Because of this your hotel should be a safe haven where the staff don't treat you like a tourist, instead like a welcomed guest. When we first checked in we were immediately handed a tour brochure without having asked one question about nearby sights. Later when we asked about an early morning taxi to the airport they offered to arrange a private car for a set fee, that fee seemed quite high to us so we asked about just calling a traditional taxi. After a rather awkward discussion they finally agreed to call a cab which was more affordable and just as convenient.

We loved our stay in this small hotel. It was very clean, neat & tidy, well furnished & generally quiet (stayed 4 nights but did not hear the 5am call to prayer!). Breakfasts were good. The staff were friendly, efficient & very helpful. The location could not be bettered - pop up to the roof garden & see how near you are to the Blue Mosque). It is only a 10 minute walk to beautiful Sultanahmet Square with it's many fine attractions, & to the tram stop for a short ride to the Grand Bazaar, or the Galata Bridge area for ferries/cruises, or on towards Taksim Square. There are also a good variety of restaurants nearby. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel as an ideal bed & breakfast type base for anyone who wants to see all the magnificent sights of Istanbul in a few days .

Room Tip: Our superior room was a good comfortable size

The hotel is well located in the main tourist attractions (Sultanahmet Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palace and Mosaic Museum). It is also surrounded by a range of restaurants to choose from and a local grocery store nearby. The train/tram is 5-8 minutes away from the hotel. Hotel staffs were very friendly and accommodating. We arrived at the hotel early in the morning and allowed us to check in, which was the highlight for me.

The only downside was we had to move another room on our second day, which was inconvenient but manageable as we had to re-pack. The breakfast was great if you are staying just for the weekend. If you plan to stay there longer, the food can get quite boring as it is the same breakfast each day.

Overall, I am satisfied with the experience and I recommend staying in the hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms in the basement because you can hear the tyre rolling across cobblestone pavements w...
