Istiklal street is a must visit place in istanbul, even if you are visiting the city for3 days or more.
I visited twice daily for seven days, this is because i went to have breakfast at simit saray, vivaldi waffles, starbucks... and to the exchange daytime.
I also went for a walk at night, either for enjoying music and shows on the streets or having dinner at bereket doner, turkish cuisine.
It is a whole experience by itself and don't forget to watch the glass man making your own ring or necklace !!! not to miss at all.

First of all, this is the street that eventually goes into the Taksim Square, and the Gezi Park (the place where the recent (May-July 2013) protests took place.

Second, the street itself is very very long with lots of shops, bars, restaurants and whatever you want. But it is too expensive and too crowded.

But, I would recommend to see it, given that it connects the Taksim Square and the Tunel subway (which is the 2nd oldest - subway system in the world!).

Istiklal Street is one the world most visited street where you can enjoy your night life and also day life there . During the day you can shop around and you can have your lunch there . there are too many narrow allies on the left and right side of the street where you can enjoy a turkish tea or coffee. HOOKAH / SHEESHA are also there if you like it . it is also common among Turkish clocals to have their tea and coffee which playing BACHGOMMON at their table. there are some exchange office on this street but I found the one on the right side of the street and just at the beginning of the street much better . There was a tram on the street taking the people up and down the street but seems it is not working these days. Very nice restaurants and also bars are those factors that drag you to ISTIKLAL .
Dont miss to take a photo which the statue of ATATURK in the small square at the beginning of the street . Moreover , you can walk into one of the old churches of Istanbul in this street : it is on your left when going down the street and it is in the middle of the street. Better not to shop on this street because the prices are normally higher than the other places. If you go down to the end of the street there will be a junction , if you take the left one you will get to GALATA TOWER. DONT MISS IT : ATOP GALATA TOWER , ISTANBUL IS UNDER YOUR FEET.

It is excellent for shopping, very cheap prices, nice restaurants, but a bit dirty. There are a lot of local shops and street musicians all along the street.
