if u ever go to Istanbul, buy a day trip to bosphorus and take your swim wear to swim in the sea :) and your camera to take picture of this breath-taking view and water. You can also see many sites off the water. It is magnificent experience.

We took the boat from Eminönü to Anadolu Kavagi (Asian side), where we had a relaxed lunch on a local fish tavern by the sea and then returned back. One way with few stops took approximately 1,5hrs. The boat was old and not so comfortable, however it was a relaxed way of sightseeing and the lunch stop was totally worth it. There is several restaurants in Anadolu Kavagi, one can easily spend 1-2 hours enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.
The return ticket cost 25 Liras, and the boat was on time.

There is several active sales agents on the streets in the pier of Eminönü for cruises without stops available for a length of 1,5 hours, however if you wish to take the longer cruise and stop on the way, you can buy the tickets from the Sehir Hatlari sales office located close to the Galata bridge. 3 departures daily (10.35, 12.00, 13.35).

We did the full Bosphorus cruise (t25) From Eminonu. Easy to find where to purchase tickets at ferry terminal. There is a brochure with times boats leave and return. At time of writing this is 10:35am, 12:00 and 13:35 leave from Eminonu. Return from Anadolu Kavagi ( last stop) only in afternoon (15:00, 16:15 and on weekdays two other later boats). We caught the 12:00 ferry which was great as it gave us just under 1.5 hrs (boat a bit late) at A.kavagi. If you ge 10:00 boat then you have to wait nearly 3 hrs for return boat. We walked to castle (great views) and had a fish sandwhich for lunch then returned. Fish at front counter of restaurants looked fresh but we didnt try. Got the audio guide which was good (shared one between two). We got to boat 30 mins early and started listening to guide as there is about 20 mins of audio on the sites you can see before you even leave. Also allows you to get good seat. See prevous reviews for other tips. Most of main sites were in first part of trip and it looked like the short 2 hr cruise that leaves at 14:30 goes past these so if you were short of time i imagine the short cruise would also be good.

.....or neither in Europe nor Asia!

For me it was a fantastic experience. The ship heads from one bank to another along the Bosphorus. It takes about one hour and a half to reach the furthest point of Istambul, just where the Bosphorus strait is more narrow and then it starts the Black Sea. This last village is called Anadolu Kavagi, and is an strategic militar point. The litte village is very mediterranean and tranquil. In the top of it there is an old fortress with very nice views. I recommend to have luch there, in some of the nearby restaurants, or if you prefer fish then there are man places near the pier.
The ship leaves al 15:00 h back to Istambul, so you have almost 3 hours on your own to walk and discover the place. I do not recommend it if you do not have plenty of time, in that case it is a better opcion the short one that only reches to the second Bosphorus bridge and comes back.

We were informed about the Bosphorus Tour by our hotel. We took the half day tour (35 Euros per person) which included a cruise on the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus along both the European and Asian shores (best part of the trip), a boat ride up and tram ride down Pierre Loti Hill (fun!), bus drive along City Walls (interesting), and a schedule (read the small print) but unexpected "shopping opportunity" at a Leather and Fur shop that included a runway show with models wearing the target items. Some may like this "unexpected" side excursion, but it was not our "happy ending". None the less, we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the tour, one wouldn't see as much of Istanbul without such a whirlwind of sites, and the guide was wonderful. Just do it, you won't be sorry.
