“Coming Back Again”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

A few years ago my wife and I stayed at the Grand Yavuz Hotel based upon a recommendation of a colleague. She did not lead us astray! First, the hotel is an easy walk to the Grand Bazaar, the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, and a number of the lesser sites of Sultanahmet. A longer walk behind the hotel to the water gets you to a row of seafood restaurants that are excellent. This is lunch-time walk as some of the streets are shared with vehicles and would probably be hazardous at night. Taxi cabs are plentiful, however. The hotel itself is well-maintained and clean. The size of the rooms do vary from quite small to quite large. Because of a flight delay, we arrived around midnight, and the front desk people apologetically explained they had to give us the last free room--quite small--but said we would be moved to a regular room the following morning. When the man bringing up our luggage opened the door to our new room we were extremely pleased: large, well-appointed, and with a great view of the water and a major mosque. The front desk people were equally accurate with their directions for getting around the city, particularly to outlying sites. Our American-English presented no problems, and they appeared equally fluent with German. Lastly, the hotel offers a complimentary breakfast--with an emphasis on Turkish breads, cheeses, and olives--that is both hearty and tasty. We were so satisfied with the hotel, its staff, and amenities that, when we decided to come back to Istanbul this Spring, the Grand Yavuz was first on our list of reasonably priced choices in Sultnahmet. A follow-up review will follow our visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a nice room; the staff tries to accommodate.

Firstly I am not sure how the Grand Yavuz received their 4 star grading. We stayed at theHilton Holiday Inn in Konya and you cant compare. The rooms are so small you cant swing a cat. The bed is small, uncomfortable and you woke up with a sore back in the morning. It was noisy and you could hear the people in the room next door and in the hallways. The bathrooms are tiny, the toilet is squashed in between shower and basin. As for the hairdryer well I think it came from the 1920's Breakfast is much to be desired very boring and limited. No complimentary tea and coffee. The wi-fi was not operating at full power, and made the use of i-pads and computers useless. Their was a safe but you had to pay for it. We did complain to Management. Pictures on the Internet are deceiving.

Room Tip: I would suggest they go 50 metres up the road to the 4 Star Innova, which is spacious, complimentary...

Overall nice and clean hotel. Stayed there in march 2012 for 4 nights. Perfect if you are in the city for the first time as all the main attractions are within walking distance. Tram is 10min walk away which will take you to the other side of the city. Grand Bazaar is also just a short 10min walk away. Otherwise, besides all the tourist attractions and one good restaurant(the best mezze, especially hummus, ever) Khorasani, Sultanahmet is very touristy place. If you want the fancy restaurants, best shopping stay at Nisantasti neighbourhood. Fantastic place! Or in Taksim.
Breakfast wasnt very big, but the things served were tasty and good.
Beautiful view from the rooftop.

Turkish Airlines booked this hotel for me during my 18 hours transit time. I didn't spent long time there since the whole day, I used to walk around the neighbourhood area. It's closed to attractions in Sultanahmet such as Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, etc. The room was clean and quite big, the toilet was cleaned. The staffs were also friendly and informative.

- Great looking exterior and interior for the price
- Short walking distance (uphill) to the main attractions
- Good range and quality breakfast
- Smelly drains
- Staff used no initiative and offered poor levels of help when advised about broken room hair dryer
- Get a taxi from airport (inexpensive)
- If early flight get shuttle bus from hotel (good value for money, efficient and easy)

We ended up staying at this hotel by default as we had missed our connecting flight and Turkish Airlines booked us into this hotel. We have stayed elsewhere in Istanbul before and were delighted with the quality, service and situation of this hotel. The facilities are very good and the hotel is situated right in the middle of the Sultanahmet which is wonderfully convenient as you are able to walk to many of the main attractions in the area. The rooftop terrace has a stunning bar and restaurant with attentive and helpful staff. The meals we had in the hotel (at Turkish Airlines expense) were set meals and were simply adequate - nothing exciting there, but not really surprising for a set menu. The rooms are big enough and the bathrooms are modern although the towels are a little threadbare (we found that at the previous hotel as well and were rather surprised - maybe they don't believe towels should be replaced regularly?) I am not sure about value for money as we weren't paying but would recommend this as a good, safe, comfortable hotel which is ideally situated for tourists who want to walk to the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar and many of the other attractions in the old city.

In November 2012 we enjoyed very nice days in Grand Yavuz Hotel. Our room was clean, not huge but well siced. The stuff welcomed us friendly and helped us out with all our questions.
The roof top terrace has a nice view on the Bosporus, one can forget the time there. And if you dicide to leave the terrace all the sights in Sultanahmet are very close, hence the location is perfect. Just during the night there is some noice, but thats the price of a centered location and Istanbul is a living city...
The breakfast was good everyvody can find something what he likes.
All in all we really can recommened this hotel.
