“Out of the tourist centers and 100% worth the trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

For 5 TL, you can visit the huge, impressive, and completely breathtaking (literally; wait until you try those stairs) Rumeli Hisari in north Istanbul. I saw a photo of this on a photo blog I follow and knew I had to make it a part of my trip to Istanbul. I am so glad I did; it was one of the highlights of my visit to Turkey.

If you have trouble with mobility or are very afraid of heights, you may get limited enjoyment out of parts of the fortress. If you're just a little nervous about the idea of ascending lots of unrailed narrow stone steps--know that it's worth it for the views at the top! I couldn't believe how much of the fortress we could walk to, climb on, and see, and also couldn't believe how few people were visiting. I guess it's far enough from Sultanahmet that many don't make the trip. That said, I encourage you to visit if you can. You will absolutely not regret it!

“huge from horn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

rumeli fortress is really huge and has beautiful sightseeing specially near the phosphorus horn . it has lot of stairs for climbing so it doesn't suggest for those that have failure in their knees i don't know access is available via car or not . but you can go to cabatash and take a phosphorus tour before noon and see it while you sitting on the ship

“Best sight of Bosphorus”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2013

An amazing old castle just on the coast line of Bosphorus with a very beautiful sight, great garden and relaxing atmosphere.

Fee: 5TL

Hints:
- Do not forget to bring your camera.
- Do not bring your little kids! The place has much more guard-less stairs than you can even imagine.
- On your return path, have a short walk along the Bosphorus.
- You can not eat or drink inside the castle (the guards will search your bags at entrance gate).

I went with the Bosporus cruise, and came back traveling to Emirgan Park, Rumeli fortress and Ortakoy. Visit in the evening or early morning for brilliant views. A very evocative castle.
