“Great location and good for first time tourist”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

We stayed at the Armada Hotel for four nights upon our arrival in Turkey. The hotel is quite easy to get to from the airport (about 45 lira by taxi), and located very close to all of the Sultanahmet tourist sites. As others have mentioned, the breakfast is very good, and the rooftop location has some astounding views. Service was reasonable (and better than I expected from the other reviews). The room was not large, but comfortable. Air conditioning did not work very well, so I'm happy that the weather was not too hot while we were there. We stayed on the sea view side of the hotel, and on Saturday there is a disco nearby (or other source of loud music) that makes it difficult to sleep before 1 am. Overall, a pretty good place to stay and great location for the main tourist sites.

Room Tip: Bar across the street from the seaview side of the hotel has loud music on Saturday night

So I really enjoyed staying at Armada, not only does it have kind workers, it also has amazing placement. Its an easy walk to both the Blue Mosque and the Haigasophia. The concierge would help with finding museums to getting basket ball tickets. Another cool thing is the fact that the breakfast baffet is up at the terrace, their terrace has an amazing view of the city.

One extremely nifty thing that I discovered is that they have apartments also for rent, we rented a five floored apartment that is better value for a large group of people. If you live at the apartments you still get to go to the buffet and hang around there for the great wifi etc. If you think you might want an apartment then you also consider the bad wifi. If it's a business trip with just you, the hotel is better for your needs, if you're a family on vacation you might want to think about the Armada house.

Pros: great placement, nice staff, buffet, office room, ATM, terrace, Turtle pond, concierge
Cons: people at concierge sometimes have a bit of trouble with their english, don't have any decent maps available
Tips: even if you're there for work enjoy yourself at least take in the view while at the terrace, for the most basic problems talk to the front desk their English is better than the concierge

The apartment pro's and cons
Pros: has access to the buffet office room etc., some apartments have better views of the mosques than the terrace
Cons: bad spotty wifi, sewer problem that results in smelly bathrooms for some apartments, each floor is not exceptionally large.

This is an excellent place to stay for your first visit to Istanbul. The hotel is in a great location for the main tourist spots and also overlooks the sea. The interior has a lot of character and interesting features and the terrace restaurant (inside and out) has wonderful views and delicious Turkish food. The staff are very friendly and professional. Namik at reception was a great help in many ways and handled all our requests and questions perfectly. Great hotel all round!

The Armada Hotel is a good all purpose hotel for visiting the historic highlights of Istanbul. The lobby is large if rather impersonal although the family of turtles living in the fountain could keep you entertained for ages. The reception staff are efficient and reliable if not overly warm and welcoming. Our room was charming, with painted wooden panelling and a very comfortable bed and spacious shower room. Best of all was the view of the sea. And the view is even better on the rooftop terrace where we had breakfast in the mornings and a drink in the evening as you can also see the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia looming just up the hill. The breakfast buffets were fresh and copious with many Turkish treats and plenty of international standards. Best of all was the orange juice press so you could press your own oranges for unlimited orange juice.

The Armada also offered a few extra services at the time of booking and we took advantage of the transfer from the airport and the visit to an old and traditional Hamam. Both were arranged and executed easily.

Room Tip: Not all the bedrooms face the sea, so if it matters be sure to ask for one. Our room was 207 and whi...

I found this hotel online and am so happy we stayed there. The huge roof top restaurant, choice of inside or out has beautiful views; one side is the sea and the other the Blue Mosque. The food is excellent! Everyone is so friendly and communication is not a problem. I paid ahead for them to pick us up from the airport and am so glad I did. The hotel is across the street from the water front, where you can walk or jog and is only a short stroll to Old Town's quaint cafes, restaurants, other hotels. The Grand Bazaar and Blue Mosque is not much further past that where you can catch the "Big Tour Buses" to take you all around the city getting on and off wherever you want, all day long. We loved this area of Istanbul!

Room Tip: We had a "Deluxe Room" which gave us quite a bit of space. It had a "semi" view...

We stayed at this hotel in September as part of a small tour group. It is located in Sultanamet within easy walking to all the major sites. The room included a safe, vanity mirror, tissues, robes, and slippers. We had a limted view of the "garden" in the back. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the water was the best we had in all of Turkey. We chose mezes for our dinner and had a terrific view of the Blue Mosque up the hill from the hotel.

Room Tip: We had room 242 which had no particular view but was not noisy.

The Armada is in the perfect location. Our room looked out towards the Bosporus and we could watch all of the ships lining up to go through. From the terrace restaurant you could have a perfect water view or the more romantic view of the Blue Mosque which looks great in the early evening. Unfortunately the room was tiny with barely enough room to move - so if you plan to spend a lot of time in your room you may wish to look elsewhere. The shower was over the bath - so if you have some mobility issues this is not the place for you either. You need to remember that this is an old building in an older area and only so much can be done to modernise it without losing its character - and it certainly has character. The elevators are cupboard sized - our room was marginally bigger yet it was nice. It was adequate for an overnight or 2 but I don't think I'd like it for longer.
If you are looking for a place to sleep close to the romance Istanbul has to offer - this is your place. Service was great if you could catch someone's attention. The food in the restaurant was quite nice without being great. breakfast was a real experience - not to be missed. There was little that was recognisable but it was fun trying different things.
If you're staying in Istanbul you really want to be in or near the old part of the city and that's exactly where this is -location, location, location. Walk to the Blue Mosque and Santa Sofia in minutes.
