Sultanahmet Palace Hotel
Ranked #330 of 1,181 Hotels in Istanbul

I found this hotel on the net and chose it because it was different - an old sultan's palace with only 45 rooms (pity about the 3 flights of stairs to the room but worth the view). We looked out our bedroom window onto the Blue Mosque! The other side of the hotel looks out over the Bosphorus, a lovely site for the rooftop breakfast room. The staff are extremely helpful, and gave advice the first rainy night about a fish restaurant who had a free pickup and return service. What a great idea! Loads of music and singing from a great band, and a lovely meal.

There's a lovely garden area in the front of the hotel, and the room service is excellent. Breakfast is part of the package as is the free airport pickup. The curtains were probably a bit short so light came in, but the Turkish bath in the large bathroom made up for all that. There's a bazaar opposite (between the hotel and the Blue Mosque) and the whole place felt like someone's rather grand home. Would definitely stay there if we go back to Istanbul.

This is a lovely hotel in an amazing location. Breakfast was varied and plentiful; rooms were clean; staff were civil. Negatives: small rooms with little storage ; paint peeling on ceiling; awkward bathrooms. If you're a light sleeper, the 5 am muezzin call, through loudspeakers, could be a real problem. Air con was bizarre.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back.

Wow what a surprise to walk out of the hotel lobby through a pretty garden to be greeted with the awesome Blue Mosque imposing into the sky. We could never get enough of this view and all lit up at night made us quite dizzy. The hotel was spotlessly clean and all staff very efficient and welcoming. We had a downstairs standard room which was larger than upstairs and had a western bathroom although the hamman bathroom looked great. Decor appropriate and tasteful. The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of cheeses, meats and all exotic nuts, fruits and jams. Mulberry berries and rose jam on yoghurt, fantastic. It is not hip and cool but it is in an old palace, more heritage than boutique and has been restored accordingly. I would defintely stay here again as it really was rather good. We had dinner in the retaurant one night and that was not bad at all with excellent service. Overall we had a perfect stay in a atmospheric and comfy hotel right in the centre of old Istanbul.

Ideally located next to the Blue Mosque and a short walk from Aya Sofia and Sultan's Palace, this hotel is perfectly adequate, with friendly staff and a good dining and breakfast service. The rooms are on the small side, but comfortable and equipped with unique little bath rooms with heated tiled walls and seating in the shower! Staff were friendly an helpful.

The hotel is a beauty in and of itself both inside and out. The rooms are adequately sized, clean and light. Our room had a lovely balcony overlooking the Blue Mosque. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a delicious breakfast each day in a scenic dining room. I would highly recommend this hotel because aside from all of the amenities already mentioned it has a great location.

Room Tip: There are no elevators. We elected a room with a hamam (turkish bath) for the experience which are...

Spent three nights at this hotel on returning from touring Turkey. Free transport was provided one way from airport to the hotel. The first night was spent in a small room on the upper level with a balcony overlooking the Bosphorous. The hamam style bathroom was miniature with frequent water closures. After complaining about the water problem we were upgraded to a suite which was much more spacious and comfortable. The larger room had a beautifully decorated ottoman ceiling.

The restaurant was well set overlooking rooftops to the Bosphorous. The breakfast was good and the view enticed us to linger a little longer. One could either opt to sit outside in a garden setting or in a glass enclosed dining area.

The hotel is well situated and walking distance to Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Museum. The tram stop is close bye and makes travelling to the Grand Bazaar, Taksim Square, Dombalanche Palace and Panorama 1453 an easy option.

Room Tip: Select suite with a view if affordable.

Looking for something very special for your stay in Istanbul, then the right choice is this hotel; Sultanahmet Palace or better Sultanahmet Sarayi to use the local name !
Elegant building in late ottoman style with charming garden by the entrance.
We have stayed there a number of times during the last 10 years, and the hotel is also the most popular hotel for our clients coming to Istanbul.
Perfect location just down from the Blue Mosque, quiete location and fantastic vew over Bosphorus.
3 floors, no lift, 36 rooms, among them 3 deluxe rooms with big terrasses fronting the Bosphorus, a de luxe suite with same view and two balconies. 10 rooms with soem view from their balconies. The rest odf the rooms have no balcony. Half of the rooms resently rebuilt and beautifully decorated and furnished. Many rooms have old style hamam bathrooms (!)
Big terracces for outdoor serving fronting the Bosphorus view. Small charming breakfastroom/restaurant.
The right choice with the right atmosphere, where you know in what city you are when you wake up in the morning, - even though the calls from the minarettes of course will help you remembering....

Room Tip: If for the Bosphorus view and to experience the sun rise choose one of the three balcony deluxe room...
