Stayed at Blue House Hotel 7-10 Sept2011.The hotel is great for those that don't want palace size rooms. There were 3 couple's and we were treated wonderfully. It's across the street from the Blue Mosque and around the corner two blocks from the Hagia Sophia. Arrived on 7 Sept around 11:30 AM, were in our room's by 2PM. King size beds, 2 doubles pushed together. Better than a double, with small but functional bathrooms. The room service was excellent and the A/C worked! The front desk was helpful acquiring extra pillows for my wife and I. The breakfast, European continental, was ready by 6:45 daily. The server setting up the breakfast, had my ice bucket and large glass ready each morning, for ice tea. The view from the roof restaurant was fantastic. While on tour on Friday with a guide we had lunch at the "Pudding Shop". Our guide explained the owner also owns the Blue House Hotel. He was working the cash register. I went back after a great lunch and commented how pleased we were with the hotel. He asked for my room number and upon our return that evening a bottle of Merlot was waiting for us in our room. How great is that!
On the back street of the hotel is a street with 2 blocks of great restaurants, easily missed. On the way is a minimart with cigs, wine, whiskey, etc. There's a laundry out the main door to the right at the end of the block turn left and on the left. Good job, fast, less expensive than the hotel. I would stay at the Blue House Hotel again.

This friendly, clean ,delightful ,small hotel with a big heart made our stay in Istanbul. We stayed for 4 nights and as it is situated in the heart of Sultanahmet it was so easy to visit all we wanted to see.

Ask at desk if you want to visit seafood restaurants and they will arrrange a restaurant to pick you up and take you back free of charge. Good food and fun night.

Our room was small but very clean. Bathroom with shower small but again clean. The staff were very friendly and most helpful. I would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher floor. We stayed in 44. on side od hotel. 45 is a lovely suite

My husband and I just returned from a week stay at this hotel - it was OK but we had a few issues that would likely steer us to a different hotel should we go back to Istanbul.

Firstly, the bathroom was less than ideal. The toilet seat lid was not properly attached so when you lifted it up, it came off in your hand. So, everyday we propped it up beside the toilet and everyday they attempted to fix it - but the next time you used it, it came off. Also, they way the shower is set up, you actually have to step overtop of the toilet, so needless to say, it was awkward.

One day we returned from our outing to find the room full of flies - we think the cleaning staff must have had the window open while in there but it was awful trying to get them out! To be fair, we mentioned it to the manager and it didn't happen again.

Our bed was essentially 2 twins pushed together - not ideal...

The telephone only worked 3 days out of the 5. No dial tone so instead of our morning wake up call, someone would come and bang on our door.

Most of the staff were very friendly, though some of the front desk staff had trouble with English which made communicating a bit of a challenge.

The plusses of this hotel is that it is in a great location for hitting many of the attractions (small bazaar, Haigha Sophia, Blue Mosque, etc). Also, the rooftop restaurant is lovely - overlooks the bazaar, Blue Mosque and the Bosphorus.

Like I said, it was all just "ok", but we'll likely choose a different hotel if/when we go back!

Room Tip: Apparently the 'suites' in this hotel are quite nice and are only about 40 TL more, so it...

This hotel is very well located near to the blue mosque and several other attractions in Sultanahmet neighborhood. The hotel is ok, with rooms and services compatible with the prices. If you wanna a luxurious hotel, choose another, but if you think that hotel is just a place to sleep and take a shower, so go ahead!

This is a wonderful hotel. It is attractive both inside and out and the rooms are roomy and lovely. The staff, from the Desk clerks and porters to the waiters on the Rooftop terrace were professional and enjoyable to talk to. In the lobby, they have a very secure facility and procedures for storing your valuables such as cash, jewelry and passports. For dinning at the hotel, they have a lovely Rooftop terrace with linen on linen and quality service. When it came to questions about the surrounding area and attractions, the Desk clears were most helpful. There were NO surprises such as being put in a room that should be labeled a closet as opposed to a room. At a cost of € 140 per night and a $$-to-€€ exchange rate of $1.44, it was very reasonably priced for the quality of the staff and accommodations. Speaking to the staff in English was not a problem. My wife and I could not say enough good things about this hotel and I would recommend this hotel to my friends - 7/6/2110.

Room Tip: No unpleasant surprises

This is a Very Nice, Excellent Hotel. Stayed Here for Several Days Mid-July and Was Very Happy and Satisfied With the Hotel, Central Location and Services. First Rate Place. Centrally Located in Sultanahmet, which is A Great Location. Can't be Beat.
Literally Right Across from the Blue Mosque, Which is Absolutely Amazing to See At Night. It will Take Your Breath Away. Simply Look Out the Window or Just Step Outside the Front Door of the Hotel and There is It. Right in Front of You. Can't Top that! The Famed and Must See Hagia Sophia is a Short Walk Away. Also Very Nice to Walk Around the Neighborhood and See the Shops, Get A Sense of Atmosphere and What Turkey is Really Like. Literally Right Across the Street from the Hotel was A Really Nice Outdoor Restaurant that Had Exceptional Food, Great Atmosphere and A Twirling Dervish Dancer that Was Absolutely Amazing to Watch as He Spun Around for At Least 30 Minutes. It was Mind Blowing to Watch, Eat there and Take in the Tremendous Turkish Atmosphere, Great Smells of Grilled Specialties in the Air, Music and People Watch.

Room Was Fine, Met Our Needs Very Well. Staff Very Helpful, Pleasant, Service Oriented and Very Accommodating. Breakfast Was Great, Ample Amount of Everything and it was Really Nice to Sit Outside on the Terrace and Take in the Early Morning Istanbul Atmosphere. We Also Had Lunch on the Rooftop Terrace of the Hotel which was Very Good, Great Service and Mind Blowing Views of Istanbul. A Must if You Stay at this Hotel.

Would Highly Recommend and Would be Very Happy and Eager to Stay Here Again.

Room Tip: Request a View of the Blue Mosque. Amazing to See By Day or Night. Amazing.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in the beginning of July. This hotel is located in the most touristy area of Istanbul – Sultanahmet which is the Old City. Some people try to avoid staying in this area but I think it was a great place to be. You’re steps away from the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia, which are both really great sites to see. This hotel is only a 10 min walk to the tram which will take you to any area you want to go to.
The rooms were very nice and comfortable. I think this hotel should be listed as a 3 star hotel though. I think ive seen it listed as 4 stars on some sites. The staff were very accommodating and helpful and made any and all arrangements we needed. Breakfast was included in our package which was quite tasty. All in all we got a very homely vibe from this hotel and I would stay there again.

As far as the sights go ---
You’re about a 20 min walk (or a 5 min tram ride) from the Grand Bazaar which you must go to! It’s a huge indoor bazaar where you can get all sorts of Turkish goods. Try to go before 3pm so you have a better chance of negotiating.
Although we went to the Topkapi Palace I wasn’t that impressed with it. They show you old jewels and clothes that the Sultans wore but it wasn’t for me.
We never ended up going to the Basilica Cistern although we heard it was cool.
The spice bazaar was OK. I think the grand bazaar was better because you can actually buy stuff from there. Unless you’re interested in buying spices, I don’t think there is much of a point to go here.
Unfortunately we didn’t do the Bosphorus Cruise because we didn’t have enough time but we heard it would have been a wonderful experience.
You should definitely try to go to a Turkish Bath while you’re there. Its an experience, to say the least. You get taken to a hot stone where you lay in a room that is like a sauna and then someone will come and bathe you and scrub you down. Its definitely awkward, but only for a few mins. Its one of those things you must do if you’re in Turkey.

We didn’t use a tour guide for Istanbul and I don’t think you need to use one at all. Its an easy city to navigate throughout and when you walk and travel throughout the city on your own you get to experience more. However, when you go to the Hagia Sophia I highly recommend you take a guide up on their offer to explain the history of the mosque to you. It is one of the most beautiful sights of Istanbul and there is such a great history there. We went in without a guide and immediately realized how essential a guide would be for this site, so we hired someone that approached us.

As far as meals go –
it is known that restaurants in Sultanahmet don’t offer great food, so try to avoid that area if you can. We had a great meal at “360 Istanbul” which I highly recommend. We really enjoyed smoking hookah at the hookah bars that are all around Istanbul, especially Taksim Square. We also enjoyed hookah in the outdoor restaurant which was right outside of the Blue House hotel.

Nightlife –
You MUST go to Reina. This club was unbelievable. Im from New York City and ive been to clubs in many cities throughout the country and the world but Reina was a crazy experience. It was vegas status. You wont regret it!!

by the way, because this hotel is close to the Blue Mosque, you may be woken up by the early morning prayer call. It caught us by surprise!

We stayed in Istanbul for 3 days and 3 nights. I would say that was enough. It’s the kind of city that you can stay at longer and you’ll find stuff to do. But if you want to just quickly check out all of the main attractions and enjoy the city for a bit, then 3 days is enough
After our Istanbul stay we headed to Cappadocia and stayed at 40da Cave Suite, so check out my review for that if you’re interested!
