“Authentic Turkish character”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2011

Situated in the old part of town, Hotel Arena was a very good choice for sightseeing around Sultanahmet. Our room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the street and the Bosphorus. There was some street noise but was not a problem as this was part of the atmosphere in this part of town. At night however things were very quiet and the only noise was the call to prayer from the mosque over the road at five in the morning. The room itself was very clean and tidy. The bathroom also had a spa bath, while the TV had one or two English language news channels. An airconditioning unit had just been installed in this room. There was also a turkish bath on the ground floor. A buffet breakfast was included which had an extensive array of both Western and Turkish foods. We found the hotel staff very helpful and they gave several suggestions for restaurants at night. A short 2 minute walk up the hill takes you to the Blue Mosque.

We are couple from China and we stayed at arena Hotel. Our Room was very clean and location was good and they had very helpful front desk staff. It takes only 5 minutes walk to Blue Mosque and all Touristic attarctions. Better to arrange private airport pick up from the airport Through to Hotel or from hotel to Airport because cab drivers are nasty and may rip you off most of the times. They did gave us all the informations about Tours and restaurants, good tips about the city and it made our stay more pleasant. Definetely we will go back again to this Hotel in the future time and will reccomend to our friends to stay at Arena Hotel . Hoscakal Istanbul :)

We stayed at the Arena Hotel for one night and had planned to stay an additional 5 nights after our 2 week trip through Turkey. Our first night there was miserable: honking horns, people yelling and other street noise. Because of our sleepless night, we canceled the remaining 5 nights ( which we had pre-paid), giving the hotel 2 weeks notice.

We were told that we would receive only half our deposit. The hotel cancellation policy is 3 days without penalty. When we reminded the hotel of their written cancellation policy, they referred us to the travel agent. After consulting the travel agent, we learned that it was the hotel who would not refund the deposit. We did receive our deposit after pressing the issue.

Our friends who stayed there had to change their rooms due to street noise and we would have been wiling to try different rooms had the hotel management been helpful, instead of dismissive.

Room Tip: There are other very nice hotels in Istnabul. i would avoid this one.

As for the cancellation reimbursement, there is a misunderstanding regarding
the "cancellation policy of 2 days without penalty". There is a difference
between someone making an individual reservation on line and one made by a
travel agent.
believe the desk clerk was misinformed about this and may have misled you.
You will remember that the problem got solved very quickly. The issue was
between the hotel and the agent, and in the end the travel agent paid the
balance. Therefore, I don't think you had a reimbursement issue that
justifies a bad review in Trip Advisor.

I and my travel agent have worked with this hotel for 10 years and we've had
very good feedback from everyone until now. The price is very fair, the
hotel is clean, and the service has always been good. Also, as you can see,
there are many excellent reviews in Trip Advisor. I don't believe that the
Arena Hotel deserves this bad review.

A nice small charm hotel with an atmosphere...when you step in the lobby you're stepping into a scene of an agatha christie plot...Poirot's mustache isn't far away. Could also be the set for an old '50 ies spy movie with James Mason or Humphrey bogart...It's seems that time hasn't moved in this authentically Ottoman decorated charming hotel. Nothing of the formica or plastic you 'll find in all round tourist hotels.
Perfectly located at 5 to 10 minutes walking distance of the main sites. Which are all majestical (Topkapi, Aghia Sophia, Blue Mosque Grand Bazaar....where i recommend the unique Egyptian Bazaar). And close to some wonderful small Turkish restaurant's on sultanhamet.
The staff is extremely helpful and friendly...and I especially commend Hassan who helped us throughout our stay. We had a nice quite large corner room, with a small terrace with a view on the marmara sea. Even though the furniture is the vintage Ottoman style. The bathroom is modern and even equipped with a jacuzzi and extremely clean.
The large Ottoman bed is confortable and looks spectacular...All in all a perfect choice that will add tht special touch to the istanbul feeling.Check out their site for pictures and info, they are quite accurate.

Room Tip: a friendly hotel, negociating possible

Myself, my wife and our eight year old grandaughter stayed here for eight nights in early May on a bed and breakfast basis. We had a spotlessly clean large corner suite on the third floor with views out over the Sea of Marmaris. The excellent buffet breakfast had a wide selection of cheeses, meats and fruit, with either an omlette or boiled eggs as a hot option.
The staff could not do enough to help, particularly Faruk Keles and Onor Tatli on the front desk. Onor became an instant hero by sorting out our online check-in with Turkish Airlines which required a phonecal!
The hotel is located within a few minutes pleasant walk of all the major sights and only a very efficient tram ride away from the rest .
We booked our stay directly with the hotel and were offered a package which included; a personal guide for a day, a boat trip on the Bosphorus which stopped off in Asia for Anatolian yoghurt!, a folk dancing concert. a dinner in the hotel and airport pick up and drop off (modern Mercedes people carrier). Every part of the package was thoroughly enjoyable and highly reccommended.
The hotel is next door to one Mosque and a few yards away from another. The call to prayers early in the morning and in the evening, echoing throughout the city, only added to the magic of the stay.
To make this appraisal honest I have to include one slight criticism; though the food is good, the restaurant prices are a little high, being priced in Euros and not Turkish Lira, but you don't have to eat there!
We would unreservedly reccommend the Arena Hotel to any and everybody. Thanks Verdat for a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for the corner suite package.

We stayed for 4 nights at the Arena. It is walking distance to the major sites in the old town. The rooms were lovely and of adequate size for a large city. The service was friendly and helpful. The hotel had a small quiet patio for dinner and drinks. Breakfast was superb with many typical Turkish foods. There are views of the sea from the corner rooms, try to book one of these if you can.

Room Tip: Stay here for a great Turkish boutique hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Arena Hotel. Its location is ideal: within easy walking distance of Istanbul's main sites. It is comfortably elegant and provides an absolutely excellent breakfast buffet. We felt it was very good value for money. Most notable, however, was the helpfulness of the staff who went out of their way to make sure we were happy there. They are happy to give sightseeing tips and they speak several langauges, including English, French and Russian.
