My family and I travel often and we always are seeking hotels that reflect the personality of the areas in which we travel. We always stay in the Turkoman on our trips to Istanbul. This a a small, very quaint hotel just across the Hippodrome from the Blue Mosque. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful in everyway, and the view from the windows of the Blue Mosque is magical. We especially look forward to the delicious breakfast served in the rooftop dining room overlooking the Blue Mosque. We always tell our our friends to stay in this hotel as we love Istanbul and we love the Turkoman. Catherine and Sy, NYC

Right behind the Blue Mosque. Clean, quite, very helpful staff, great location. We had stayed in the Beyoglu section and it was noisey til 5am everyday, so we were so glad to get to the Turkoman which was an Eduardian style building with large rooms, smaller bathrooms, but very clean and super comfortable. The staff was so helpful with everything and the breakfasts were more than the traditional cheese and olives. The hotel is one block away from the tram and tons of restaurants. We will be back!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Turkoman for 2 weeks over the Christmas Holidays. The location is ideal for all of the sites, and a breathtaking view of the Blue Mosque from our room. The hotel is spotless, and the service staff are extremely helpful. I was ill one day, and without asking, the staff brought a tray of the perfect food to my room. In chatting with the Manager in the morning, she gave us the perfect tips on Istanbul based on our interests.
Overall, it is a comfortable, simple family run hotel that we would be more than happy to stay at again.

Having stayed at the Turkoman Hotel twice in 2009, I was quick to make a reservation for my return to Istanbul with a friend in August 2010.

I was over the moon when I got my confirmation in writing that we had reserved a room overlooking the blue mosque with twin beds and as our holiday drew nearer began to relish the thought of our pre-dinner drink on the terrace listening to the call to prayer above the hub-bub of street level.

What a disappointment when we arrived at the hotel. Rifat recognised us from our visit the previous year and we took a seat in reception whilst he retrieved his paperwork regarding our booking.

The scene around us was reminiscent of Fawlty Towers with staff taking bedding and towels at speed and scurrying downstairs. After about 15 mins Rifat told us he didn't have a room with twin beds but he had one double room. We were shown to a tiny dark room in the basement of the hotel below reception which clearly had been made up as an emergency when we arrived and couldn't be described as a hotel room. Not only that it had a small double bed. We were two ladies travelling together - why would the hotel think it was appropriate that we should want to pay to share a small double bed when my reservation had clearly stated we were reserving a room with twin beds.

What was even more disappointing was the way this was handled. When we asked what had happened to our reservation and produced a copy of the email from Rifat confirming the booking we had made 2 months previously, he merely stated they had a large group in who had taken all the rooms. Clearly a reservation isn't worth the paper it is written on if a bigger group materialises, even though I had provided my credit card details to secure the booking.

Additionally Rifat didn't offer to help to find any alternative for us. After we asked him to help us he rang the Alzer Hotel next door who were able to offer us a twin room at the same price as our reservation. No view from the room or roof terrace bar, but they had great service and it was a clean well equipped room.

By means of an apology, The Turkoman merely offered that we could have a breakfast in their hotel......not something we chose to take up as we had breakfast included from the Alzer Hotel

The Turkoman is the ideal place to stay in Istanbul, especially if you are visiting the historic sites. The location is brilliant - right opposite the Blue Mosque, but slightly back from the main street so you don't get much noise. Inside, the hotel itself is a tasteful and sensitive renovation of an historic Ottoman building. The balance here is just right - the furnishings and rooms give you a sense of being in wrapped in Istanbul's unique history, but everything is sparklingly clean and you have all the modcons and luxuries you might want. Also, it doesn't get much better than breakfast or sunset drinks on the roof terrace - the view is fabulous. And finally, the staff are extremely friendly and can help with pretty much anything. To be honest, I think this is a brilliant little hotel. I'm a regular visitor to Istanbul because of work, and both I and most of my colleagues will stay here when we can. For myself, I've stayed in the Turkoman in 2010, 2009, and 2007, and will be going back there again later this year. Very highly recommended.

We last stayed at this hotel in 2008 - since then it has deteriorated terribly. The breakfast is very poor quality, there is no cover on the hot milk container, so how can it stay hot. How much would it cost to buy a new one? The staff are surly and tense. Rugs in the hallway are filthy. Same for rugs in bedrooms. Lamps in bedrooms are tatty. Bedcovers are cheap and old nylon. TV's old and poor quality. We booked 3 rooms and stayed 4 nights. Fridges dont cool things down at all. Furniture is past its prime. Air con does not work properly in some rooms - on asking for fans because weather was unusually humid and hot - there was only one and the response was grudging. These rooms averaged about $150 per night! The family room on the first floor consists of two rooms with a bathroom in the middle. There is no natural light or ventilation in the twin bedded area, and the tiny split unit in the double bedded area does not reach the children's area. The huge and heavy mirror above the breakfast display fell off its hinge and very narrowly missed one of our party. No apology from one of the owners who happened to be in the room at the time. Location is great (quiet area off the Hippodrome and a stones throw from Divan Yolu round the back streets) but you can find 2 much cleaner, newer hotels in the same street or go down toward the city walls for much better value options.

Central locationwhich is convenient for the all the main sights and the trams. Good choice of fresh foods for the breakfast which you take on to the balcony to eat whilst feasting your eyes on the amazing views.
