“The friendliest staff in Istanbul!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

sI've just returned from Istanbul where a friend and I stayed at Hotel Turkoman in Sultanahmet. I will definitely return to stay here. This was my 4th visit to Istanbul and although I've never had a bad stay, the staff at this hotel stood out! I have yet to meet friendlier and more accommodating staff. Although everything about my stay here was good, I would go back for the staff alone.
We were served a more-than-lovely breakfast buffet with a range of goodies including halva and fresh cherries to add to your yoghurt, fritters, boiled eggs, sour cherry juice (yum) - too much to mention. A sea gull joined us on the balcony - with a GREAT view of the Blue Mosque - and ate with us. (S)He called his babies over from the adjacent roof and they came squawking to join the party though they kept their distance.
Our luggage (very heavy, I might add) was carried around; they obligingly allowed us to shower although we had already booked out... I could go on and on.

We were recommended this hotel by friends and were very impressed. Excellent location adjacent to blue Mosque and close to everything. We stayed four nights and had wonderful corner room with plenty of space and great bathroom facilities. The breakfasts were amazing with wide selection of breakfast food, excellent coffee and great staff. The hotel was immaculate, wifi great, the terrace for relaxing and drinks perfect a retreat after a busy day out in Istanbul. It was really quiet in evenings and early mornings as no traffic in this particular area so really could highly recommend.

The location cannot be beat - just a minute's walk from the quiet end of the Hippodrome - the room was airy and spotlessly clean, the shower strong and hot, and the bed very comfortable. The furnishings are a hodgepodge of stuff from grandma's attic. We had an inner room with a view of an airshaft, but so what? The rooftop breakfast room has a million dollar view of the Blue Mosque and, until 11:30, that room serves as a bar where you can have a beer (Efes, of course), while watching the moon float over the minarets. No restaurant, but there are dozens of places within a block or two.

Staying here involves a lot of steps - there is no elevator. Also, the air conditioner is mounted high on a wall and could be difficult for anyone of less than average height to reach. There was only one spare outlet for charging phones and such, not uncommon in older places like this.

Our hosts were charming and friendly - it was like staying with friends. The whole enterprise is supervised by Kopeck.

Room Tip: I wouldn't bother paying more for a room with a view. You can always pop up to the roof.

A very nice hotel and very homely. We stayed there in mid 2012. The host - the boss, the lady & doggy, the kitchen lady, the night man were very accommodating, and the cat. The decoration, the furniture were classic. They granted our request to have the lower floor room for my aged mother-in-law. My husband & 1 also have the lower floor room with the children having upper floor rooms. Breakfast was nice just like home. The terrace view was superb. My mother-in-law couldn't really took the steps up to the restaurant for breakfast. So the man on night shift sent hot water EVERY EARLY MORNING (5-6 am) to my mother-in-law's room for her to take her medicine, Blue mosque was just a short walk. The grand bazaar was quite far but the children didn't mind.

The situation of this hotel is outstanding, being just off the hippodrome with a view of the Blue Mosque. The reception staff were friendly and helpful; the roof terrace staff very pleasant but less efficient in their service. An airport pickup was efficiently arranged for our arrival and departure. The rooms are adequate - the standard rooms are a bit small with no surface for writing; the furnishings are a bit tired, although the beds are comfortable, and everything is very clean. The walls are possibly thin in parts - one member of our group was disturbed by snoring from the room next door. The call from the muezzin of the Blue Mosque is very loud but part of the atmosphere and culture of the place. The members of our party differed in their opinion of the quality of the breakfast from "one of the best ever" to a much more guarded appraisal. The roof terrace on the other hand has to count as one of the best locations for breakfast ever encountered, and the roof terrace serves drinks throughout the day. It is the position of the hotel rather than its facilities which allows it to charge the prices it does - for what one gets it is rather overpriced. A bonus for cat lovers is the resident hotel cat!

We picked this mid-priced hotel from two good guide books, and having read some great reviews, and happily we were not disappointed. In fact we were most pleasantly surprised. Our first commendation has to go to the staff. They are so friendly and helpful, and turned out to be the best advisors on all matters Istanbul. The location is unbeatable, being directly across the piazza from Blue Mosque, and the view of the mosque and the sea from our room and the top floor breakfast room and terrace was riveting, day and night, claiming many photo shoots in different light conditions. Very quiet position although close proximity to shops, restaurants and transport. We were two couples and had two adjacent front rooms facing the mosque. The week's stay went all too quickly as the hotel was very comfortable and made us feel so much at home, although it must be said that it was still low season, and hotel was less than half full. We will certainly not look for another hotel for our next Istanbul visit, whenever that may be.

Room Tip: Most definitely front facing, and preferably second floor - the highest with rooms.

My wife and I stayed here to see in the New Year and we were very pleased with our choice.

The main plus point is the location - a stone's throw from the Blue Mosque and therefore an easy walk to the main attractions in the old part of the city. The view from the top floor, where breakfast is served and evening drinks are available, is lovely.

The hotel has the character of a family run business and our room was spacious and tastefully furnished. Service was consistently friendly and helpful.

My only criticism is that the hotel is expensive compared to others in the city. Although attractive, this is not a higher end boutique hotel (e.g. we had a basic bathroom that easily flooded; breakfast was nothing special) which the room rates tend to suggest.

There is a lot of choice of small hotels in Istanbul so we would be inclined to look for better value next time.

Room Tip: We paid a little extra for a corner room with a magnificent view of the Blue Mosque
