From the moment we were greeted with apple tea to our departure, we found this hotel in the Sultan Ahmet area to be delightful. Service was excellent, location was very convenient to Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, and we loved the roof terrace. Rooms are small but then we weren't in them much.

This is exactly the kind of hotel I like: small (too small for a tour group), with lots of local character. And it doesn't hurt to be welcomed with apple tea and Turkish delight. The service in general was very good. The clerk even loaned us 10 euros when we didn't have change. (We paid him back that afternoon.) The hotel is new built in the style of an old Turkish house, with lots of dark, carved wood, wooden screens at the windows. Our room was of good size, with a peek-a-boo view of the Bosporus. The breakfast room/terrace on the top of the hotel has a panoramic view of the Bosporus across to Asia and of the beautiful Blue Mosque. The breakfast was very good, with a choice of fresh fruit and good coffee. The location, in the Sultanahmet just behind the Blue Mosque, was perfect for first time visitors to Istanbul, close to the major sights. And there was a good selection of restaurants near-by.

By Ottoman, the guidebooks mostly mean Victorian, and this hotel is tired and sort of fussy for most American tastes. It has a small lobby area and no place to relax outside of the room. But it's in a great location in the old city, and the breakfast room has a view of the Bosporus. Also, it's clean. And, like all Turkish hotels I stayed at, the staff is wonderfully helpful.

I recently spent six night at the Dersaadet. This is a quiet, tastefully decorated small hotel well located for major sights. The front office staff couldn't have been more helpful. An email from the hotel in advance of arrival summarizes weather forecasts and opening days and hours for major tourist sights, very helpful in planning your itineraries. There is a pleasant breakfast terrace that looks out on the Marmara. The rooms are reasonably priced. As a single traveler, I felt safe and well-cared for at this hotel. I highly recommend the Dersaadet.

We just had a fine 4-day stay at the Dersaadet and enjoyed ourselves very much. It's a hotel with an attentive but not obstrusive staff, and it has a lot of character. It's in a fine location in old town, just a short walk from the main sites most visitors want to see. There's a lovely terrace on the top floor with outdoor seating overlooking the water to the south from which you can hear the call for prayer; photo shows full moon on from terrace on June 5, 2012.
