“Great place to stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2014 via mobile

Staff was very friendly and I have to say, the housekeeping staff are on top of their game. Also, definitely should try the Hamam experience at their spa. It was really unique. You could likely get a cheaper Hamam experience outside, but this was clean, and very friendly. Loved the convenience of just walking back to our room after the session.

We really liked this hotel. It had a beautiful sun deck on a rooftop setting. In addition to a pool, there were three separate hot tubs with different features and temperatures.
In the lobby, there were a great selection of Turkish Delights to welcome guests. Security was very serious with metal detectors. The restaurant had a buffet breakfast to rival any five star environment.
The room was beautiful- bathroom luxurious, and turn down included a unique box of chocolate covered coffee beans. There was a wonderful spa with all treatments.
In the morning, the hotel would offer you a complimentary coffee delivered to your room to start the day:)
The only complaint I would have, as did others at the hotel- you need your room key to get to your room. It seemed to require a special talent to get it right. Push it in slowly, like you just walked out of a meditation class and you are good to go. If however, you are dying to get back to your room, and you push the card in and out a fee times receiving that dreaded red light and beep- you would need to go to the front desk, have them escort you to the elevator and show you just how easy it really is:)
That is the only negative thing I can tell you and they genuinely cared, fixed the problem immediately with a smile!!

Room Tip: They are all good

I recvently visited Istanbul and stayed at the Ritz. I had encountered issues at the airport with visas and was quite streed when I got tthere. The staff was comforating and udnerstanding and provided excellent service. It is located far enough from the bustle to be relaxing, even with the soccer stadium construction it overlooks. The breakfasytwas great and I had drinks and ate at Bleu twice, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The pool deck and bar are also very nice. All in all a great stay at a first rate hotel.

I stayed in this hotel for business for a few nights. The quality standards are extremely high and I enjoyed very much staying in this hotel. As you would expect from Ritz-Carlton it is very clean and the staff are very helpful. The breakfast and dinner are very nice, where you can have the opportunity to taste many types of Turkish food in one dinner. The location is right in the middle of Taksim square, so that you can enjoy Istanbul right from the center. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who values high quality.

Room Tip: It is a very high building, try to get your room in the upper floors to enjoy the Bosphorus scene.

This was our first trip to Istanbul and we made the plans on very short notice. The other options were were considering (Four Seasons Sultanahmet, Hagia Sofia, TomTom Suites) were either sold out or $800+ per night.

The rooms were larger than expected, the bed was comfortable and overall we were very satisfied with the room. We were upgraded from a partial Bosphorus view to a full Bosphorus view which gave us a great view of the strait (as long as we didn't look down at the stadium under construction below). Construction on the stadium goes on around the clock. We were on the 4th floor and while I don't think it every woke us up, you could definitely hear it.

Overall the location is OK--it is a lengthy walk to Taksim Square and not one I would recommend at night. There were a couple tense moments walking back from Taksim Square on the only night we made that walk. It is a short walk to the Kabatas tram station, which is what we used to get to the Sultanahmet area (quicker than a cab). One thing we didn't like is that there is no shopping and no restaurants within a reasonable distance of the hotel, so we had to take a cab or tram to get everywhere. Cabs were always readily available, but we normally like to be able to walk to restaurants and shopping when we are staying in an urban hotel.

The concierge was very helpful in pointing us to some good restaurants. The front desk staff was very courteous and always able to answer our questions. Room service was always fast. The only annoying thing, was that on our last night housekeeping seems to have somehow turned on the alarm clock which had a default wake up time of midnight. So we were awakened by a loud alarm in the middle of the night (we were using our phones for an alarm, so we never touched the clock). The button to set the alarm was hard to move, so it is hard to see how that happened by accident.

One thing that we felt, and heard others comment on, is how the hotel exterior design does not fit at all in that setting. It looks like a huge middle finger facing the asian side of Istanbul.

Overall we would rate the hotel "OK". For the price there are probably better places in better locations if you are there for the first time to see the sights.

My wife and i stayed at the Ritz for 2 nights. I always prefer staying at the Ritz on my travels but this hotel was a huge letdown.

The pros:
- rooms are of good size, so is the bathroom.
- the location is decent as its close to both Taksim and the waterfront.

The cons:
- the attitude of the reception, concierge and the doorman is very inhospitable, absolutely shocking.
- i work for a large MNC company and obviously our firm has a tie up for a corporate rate. The receptionist while checkin was downright rude. Seemed as if they were instructed to provide low grade service to anyone who came through such corporate rates. Simple requests were mocked at and inspite of repeated requests, we were given a smoking room and i dont even smoke!!
- the AC in the room didnt work for both the nights! It got terribly hot at night. When we complained to the front desk, they just didnt listen or believe us.
- the concierge and the doorman was highly rude. We wanted suggestions for dinner places and the concierge was just not interested and infact rude enough to ask the next guest to come upfront while we were still talking. The doorman let all the guests in with a smile but somehow always picked on us to be frisked and bags scanned!! This seemed outright racist!

All in all, i was highly disappointed and shocked at the sheer attitude and rudeness at this hotel. They did everything to make our stay as uncomfortable as possible. This is not the Ritz that i am used to! next time, will definitely opt for the other hotels in the same vicinity (the Intercon, Hilton or the Grand Hyatt).

Dear Mr. Rmjk,

I am overwhelmed by your note and nevertheless I thank you for sharing it. I wish I would have had the opportunity to talk to you face to face while here, to fix things or at list to convey personally my apologies.

Our commitment to genuine care for our guest did not and will not change, that is what has made The Ritz-Carlton in the years and these are not at all the comments that we are accustomed to receive, especially by corporate guests like you that are a large portion of our business.

Your perception is our reality and I personally offer my apologies for not meeting your expectations; on one thing I will humbly defend my team and our name: nobody in this hotel can be accused of being a racist.

Regrettably, I take good note that you will prefer another hotel in your next trip.

Sincerely,

Max Zanardi

For a short trip to Istanbul, i chose to stay at the Ritz Carlton as they are top of their range when it comes to hotels. The view from the hotel was amazing looking down at the Bosporus (when the stadium that is being built is done it will be even better). Room had a good size and was comfortable, the thing i loved the most was the bathroom. The mattress was a bit too soft for my taste, but the pillow compensated for a decent sleep. The breakfast was fantastic, and the staff made all the difference.
Unfortunately i felt that there was something missing from the Ritz Carlton standards that left me a bit disappointed.
