Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet

Certificate of Excellence

We stayed for four nights at this wonderful hotel in early September. The hotel and our room were extremely clean and beautifully presented. An excellent bed, first rate toiletries and complementary fruit and bottled water each day was much appreciated. Excellent front of desk staff, friendly and polite and a very knowledgable concierge advised good restaurants for us. The breakfast garden setting was truly beautiful and a delightful way to start the day. Yes, it is expensive, but I have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful 5 star hotel.

The hotel is set around a lovely central garden and in easy walking distance to the major attractions and plenty of restaurants (although the hotel restaurant is excellent). The staff are attentive and the service exemplary. The rooms are reasonably sized. We booked the base level room and requested a room over the garden. As light sleepers it was a great choice as it was extraordinarily quiet. The roof top terrace is very pleasant with views of the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Bosporus. We rated it a four rather than five given it is relatively expensive.

We had the fortunate experience of spending the last two nights in Turkey at the Four Seasons at Sultanahmet. We started our journey to Turkey at the Bosphorus property and that was incredible in itself. Two weeks later we came back to Istanbul and had the pleasure of the atmosphere, staff (front door, bellmen, front desk, restaurant, room service, housekeeping, etc) all working in tandem to make our stay just incredible. As a loyalist to a couple of different brands for business, my pleasure travels always bring me to the Four Seasons family. Therefore, my business travels will now do the same. Thank you to the entire staff of the Four Seasons at Sultanahmet for making our journey to Turkey end on such a positive note.

Respectfully,
Edward Hensley

I recently stayed at this property for 3 nights in August, 2013. I was with family and we had rooms 215 & 223. We found the Sultanahment Four Seasons hotel to be quite charming from the delightful rooftop terrace to well maintained garden.

I wanted to compliment the breakfast staff who carefully took care of our needs each morning, cleaning staff who ensured our rooms were well kept and stocked with water, snacks, and bathroom amenities. The concierges who made a dinner reservation and arranged a very nice hammam experience.

I am relieved to say that our stay turned out so nice since our check-in did not go so well. We arrived at approximately 3:30pm on Sunday August 18, 2013. I had booked two rooms through American Express Platinum with one basic room at a rate of 500 Euro per night and one at the next level for 710 Euro per night.

Upon arrival the young man at reception/check-in desk informed us that one of the rooms had a problem. He originally had us in rooms 120 & 121, and that he would move one of the rooms to 119. He took us to these rooms which are located downstairs (AKA Dungeon). The first room he took me to looked out a window through a construction structure onto the street. I was very disappointed since I had just come from 3 nights at the Ciragan Palace where I had a room for almost same price, 550 euro per night overlooking the Bosporus, pool, and palace. Moreover, when booking with AMEX Platinum an upgrade is provided when available. I mentioned this to the young man and he agreed to upgrade us.

The person checking us in never offered us a newspaper for our rooms or mentioned the coffee service provided each morning 5:30am. We were informed about both of these amenities by the concierge later that afternoon and he ensured we received the paper the next day.

So while we may have started on a poor note we ended our stay with very nice memories. I'd recommend this property provided you avoid being placed in garden level rooms downstairs.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms located downstairs

We decided to stay in this hotel because we wanted to stay in Sultanehmet near by all historic attraction (Old town, Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, Haghia Sophia). Our expectation were absolutely fulfilled, everything is in a short walking distance.
We stayed in the Suite which had a view to Haghia Sophia from the living part and as well to the Sea of Marmara from the bedroom.
The hotel has really unique atmosphere and service was excellent.

Room Tip: If you can choose definitively the top floor because of the view.

Istanbul is full of energy and people and sights and sounds and in the heart of all this is the tranquil retreat of luxury and comfort of the Four Seasons. Each day there was a bit of perfectly ripe fruit waiting for us after a hot day of sightseeing. English was spoken by all the staff we encountered. There is a beautiful rooftop bar with views which we were too tired to linger, but maybe next time! One block from a wonderful turkish bath hamman which was a delightful afternoon for my grown son and boyfriend. The really important sights...Blue Mosque, Haga Sophia, Cistern and Topkapi Palace were just a couple of easy blocks walk for the entry of this lovely hotel. Would stay here again if anything brings us back to this wonderful city.

Room Tip: Our room was on the street level so we had to keep curtains closed...ask for a high up room.

This is beautiful property in charming historic district. The staff are attentive and maintain a consistently high standard of professionalism. It is pricey but represents good value.

I stayed there on two legs of a trip; once in an upgrade to ground level luxury level room and once on a complimentary upgrade to a full suite as there were problems with the reservation. These rooms were very spacious and elegant. Not sure what the standard rooms are like.

The common areas (especially the court yard and roof top patio) would be worth the visit even if you're not staying at the hotel.

I was unimpressed with dinner at the restaurant.
