“Great View & Central Location...”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Istanbul Conrad hotel was build back in 1990s and it is from one of the most centrally located hotels in Istanbul.

It had an overall renovation lately.

It is next to a very green park and close to Besiktas, Sisli, Levent etc. neighborhoods which accommodates the main Shopping Malls of the city such as Kanyon, Akmerkez, Metro City, Profilo, Cevahir, Astoria etc.
One can reach to these Shopping Malls very easily within couple of minutes and the Hotel is also close to main public transportations.

One of the best is the view of the hotel.
You have a full Bosporus view, it is remarkable.
Hotel has a rooftop terrace bar overlooking to Bosporus view and old city center which is located on Historical Peninsula.

Fitness/Gym is decent size. There is an outdoor swimming pool.
There was an open air cinema years ago but have not checked last time.

If you want to be close to city center would definitely recommend.
And you will have a lovely view as well.

The location is a little bit off the public transportation. However, it is not too far away from a bus station with a little bit of walking. On the way back up to the hotel, it is an uphill BTW.

The hotel itself boasts five start service on a hilltop looking down the Bosphorus Straight. When and if you are able to access to the Executive Lounge, you will be able to see a panorama of the Bosphorus Straight. The lounge is small but convenient. And, the lounge staff are very courteous and helpful. Any day excursions and restaurant recommendations, you can get them from the staff. I forgot a very willingly helpful lady who was expecting a baby by now. She was absolutely a great asset to the hotel. In the evening, the lounge provides more than enough finger food and drinks.

The room at the time of my stay back in December was not renovated. The renovation was underway. Hope the renovation would bring in more features in the room. In my room, there was no signature Conrad doll. Asked a staff member in the lounge, a Turkish solder bear doll in a traditional costume was brought to the room. Special spa products could be ordered in the room as part of the amenity.

Didn't get to dine in the restaurant after my returns to the hotel after 10 pm. It seems that all restaurant close at 10 pm except for a lounge/bar under the Executive Lounge.

A great place. A different setting and place from Embassy Suites in the Old Town.

Strong recommended to enjoy Turkish delights and hospitality.

The views of the Bosphorus from the upper floors is breathtaking. I think it's the best view I've ever had from a hotel (even better than Hong Kong Bay, Niagara, Las Vegas Strip, Waikiki, etc.). The staff were very good all-around, especially the concierge.

The rooms are just ok for Conrad. The bathroom is small, the shower was tricky, and the AC couldn't quite keep up with the hot weather (90 degrees F). Perhaps these things will be fixed during the ongoing renovations (which I saw visual evidence of but never actually heard). But the bed was comfortable and the furnishings were nice. Overall, I still give the hotel high marks.

For those thinking about staying here, the location needs to be noted. It's not that close to the old city, where almost all the major sites are located. It's also a bit far from the airport, and there's no easy way to take public transportation. But here's how we dealt with these problems...

First, the immediate area doesn't look great at first glance, but if you cross through the park to the main street, cross the street, and walk down the hill, you'll see a vibrant area with lots of restaurants, shops, ferry docks, and walking streets. There's also the Cirigan Hotel (former Palace) and Yildiz park nearby.

For the old city, you can take a taxi for perhaps about $10-12 though it can be stop-and-go and the taxi drivers are scoundrels (you really need to read up on their usual tricks before stepping into one). Instead, we took the nearby ferry to the asian side (look for "Üsküdar"), and then another ferry to old town (look for "Eminönü"), for $3 per person (each ferry requires a 3 TRY token). It's a pleasant way to get there and the asian side is worthy of a short tour. On the way back, we took the tram to Kabatas ($1.50 per person). It's quite a long walk from there (2.5 km?), or take a taxi for $4-6.

From the airport, a taxi might be about $30. That's the default choice for most parties, especially if you have 3 or more people (though, again, do read up on the taxis). In my opinion, a better alternative for smaller parties is to take the Havatas express bus from the airport to Taksim ($5 per person, or 10 TYR, paid on the bus), then take a taxi from there to the hotel ($6-8). The bus can handle luggage, departs frequently, is very smooth, usually not crowded, and much safer and more pleasant than swerving in and out of traffic in a taxi.

Room Tip: Go for the Bosphorus view

Stayed in eight or so hotels throughout my Turkey vacation, and this hotel had the most delicious breakfast and overall service. (When I am away from home for so long, for some reason I value this more.) The lobby, restaurant, and rooftop bar and terrace were beautiful, but the rooms we stayed in during the current reno were definitely more dated-looking. When I stayed here the first time, facing one side, I heard the pre-dawn (4 a.m. or so) call to prayer as if the speaker were right outside our seventh-story window, but as I don't rely on muezzins and am a heavy sleeper, I was able to fall back asleep. We didn't spend much time in our rooms, so in retrospect, compared with hotels with poor service and breakfast fare, I looked forward to returning to the Conrad once more before flying out of Turkey. We were placed on the opposite side from the first time we stayed, and slept through the night.

I enjoyed my week at the Conrad in Istanbul. The executive lounge has a great view of the Bosphorus and is worth visiting for breakfast and evening drinks. The hotel is what you'd expect from Hilton. It's good and convenient in every way.

The Conrad Istanbul is perfectly located for a very enjoyable short break or a business trip to this wonderfully vibrant city. Just a short stroll from the water and many of the tourist attractions, The Conrad is perfectly positioned for the most breathtaking views over the Bosphorus from the upper floors and the lounge bar. The welcome is always warm, the service second to none and despite some renovation work being carried out, is clean and quiet. Extremely comfortable, excellent value for money and sumptuous food from the restaurants for dinner, or a hungry appetite for breakfast. I could not rate this hotel highly enough. Superb.
