“Bustling area, some good restaurants, centre of historic tourist stops”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2014

Liked sitting in the small restaurants and watching all the activity. Initially we really disliked the constant hustling, particularly relating to the Bosphorus cruises and the incessant carpet shop hustlers; however we did find that a polite but very firm 'No thank you' was often enough to dissuade them, provided we just kept walking and didn't engage with them in any conversation or explanation.

“Very easy for Do It Yourself”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014

Initially we went on a guided tour which costed 50 Euro per person for a whole day. Next 3 days, we did the tour ourself. It is really easy to do the Sultanahmet district trip yourself. Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Basillica, Hippodrome, Museums are all close by and walkable distance. During month of July, weather is around 70ish and awesome to walk. We walked close to 16000 steps/day. We are a family of 5. Kids are around 15,11 and 5. We are also vegetarian and there is a falafel place(Makarana.sarayi.com.tr) near Grand Bazaar, this is very inexpensive and high quality. There is also a Hamam place next to this. We went to an Indian restaurant near sophia called Dubb restaurant. Food was good and service was great, but expensive. Taxi are very inexpensive and drivers are honest. They didn't want to take tips and we literally forced it on them as we were 5 people in one taxi. Also, take the bosphorus cruise offered for the local turkish people which is 20lira per person.

“Awesome”

We loved staying in this district. Many historical monuments as well as several bazaars are in the area. Many local and authentic places to eat that fit all budgets. Shoppers paradise.

“Wonderful neighborhood to stay in”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for five days in a rented apartment. Awesome place to stay in: gives you a real sense of Istanbul history. Walked to all major sites: blue mosque, hagia sofiya, Topkapi, grand bazaar, cimberlitas hamami, the Bosphorus for breezy walks along Kennedy Cadesi. Sultanahmet square was bustling with a traditional outdoor market late into the night for Ramadan. Convenient access by tram to other parts of the city.
Lots of stores, restaurants and markets right there. Beware of crazy driving in the narrow streets and stray cats by the dozen.
