“tourist hangout place”
Reviewed July 16, 2014

this area is basically a massive tourist shopping area..you will see the same thing over and over again everywhere. it is nice no doubt :) but shops are quite repetitive. one can spend a day walking around , enough restaurants and things to see and do in that area.
metro T1 passes along that area.

this is a must see area....

Everything happens around here. Turkish Baths, pedicures, social activities, festivities, McDonalds, traditional food, all type of shops including cellphone and camerashop. Clothing here cost more or less the same as at the market. The light that can be bought here is stunning. Walking around at night is a sight for sore eyes.

“Tourist Trap that you are delighted to be trapped in”
Reviewed July 16, 2014

Yes, this historic ancient district is a tourist trap. Yes, the street vendors and tour guides hawking their wares are an extreme annoyance. Yes, the area can become overwhelmed with tourists and tour groups and buses and OMG more tourists from around the world than you can imagine. Hustle and bustle abound. But, what a fantastic area!! Within one square mile you have more ancient, early Byzantine church, medieval, and Ottoman history than one can imagine. The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palace, views of the Bosphorus Straits, the ancient Roman Hippodrome. And much, much more. Dining at all levels and prices are available. Shops selling everything from tacky mini-replicas of the Blue Mosque to authentic Turkish rugs. And, about a mile away (within walking distance) is the Grand Bazaar. Definitely not to be missed!
