We especially liked that everything we wanted to see was close walking distance.Topkapi Palace,Blue Mosque,Haya Sophia,Spice Market,Grand Bazaar and we went on a Bosphorus cruise which was lovely and relaxing, interesting to see the different old palaces and also private homes dotted along the way We found the Turkish people to be courteous and helpful with any questions we might have.Would like to go back again someday.

It was a lovely area to visit - the Sultanahmet district gave us an insight into Turkey/Ottoman culture, food, fashion, art, craft, etc. It's a nice place to stroll around.

Allthough Sultanahmet has lost some of its original charm in the last 10 years and has turned more commercial it stilll has to offer the unique feel of what Istanbul was like in the 19th century. The beautiful wooden fascades, good rooftop restaurants, authentic dhops and nice little boutique hotels are all in abundance here. Climb one of the rooftop restaurants and ejoy great viws of the Bosforus.

Without question the only area in Istanbul to be for a tourist.
Make sure you get a hotel towards the blue mosque, hagi Sophia,. basilica cistern. They are all within 5 mins of each other.

This is the "Old City" of Istanbul. Most major sites are within walking. Recommend Erganval Hotel in this area.
