First and foremost, if you land during the day i would recommend organising an airport transfer. It costs EUR 30-40 (don't do it through the hotel as will cost closer to EUR 150). The traffic is so bad in this city of 20 odd million people that a metered taxi could cost a fortune. That said the drivers will normally give you the option of a coast or highway route, pretty self explanantory.

The Ciragan Palace is by far the most viually impressive property on the Bosphorus... not the actual hotel rooms, they are in a fairly unimaginative 70s style block. But the Palace itself is stunning and the views are absolutely incredible.

The interior of the hotel and the rooms are marginally dated but still impressive. The rooms have everything that you would expect and the hotel is well kitted out with gym/pool/sauna/business centre etc.

The pool and veranda areas are lovely. The food at the pool was not great, but functional. If you are in a group I would check the bill as there was often unintentional duplication of orders.

The staff were very nice and tended to our requests quickly although do beware of the concierge when asking advice. We asked for a recommendation to watch some rugby on a saturday morning and the venue was no longer open... this was a request made before our arrival so they had plenty of time to check! Verify for yourself what they recommend.

Overal, this hotel due to its location and the palace frontage is worth being in purely for those reasons. You may find hotels with slightly better rooms or service elsewhere but to be sat looking out at the view that the Ciragan Palace provides is stunning.

Room Tip: The cost differential is pretty large between 'park' (which means back of the hotel) and Bos...

I wouldn't usually spend this amount on a hotel but we had been travelling across Europe for two weeks and I felt that we deserved a treat. I had booked using Amex's FH&R programme, so got a few extras - breakfast, upgrade, restaurant credit etc.

In a previous life, this grandiose property on the European side of the Bosphorus was a residence for sultans and today it's one of the great hotels of the world. There are sweeping views across the water toward Asia, the gardens are beautiful and the infinity pool gorgeous. Public areas have the luxury that only top hotels have and the staff have the knack of combining first class service with putting you at your ease.

The rooms are tastefully decorated and lavish in style and comfort. Ours had a balcony with a breathtaking view of the Bosphorus.

The breakfasts were excellent and we ate one night in the main restaurant which was also very good and surprisingly affordable. The highlight however is to sit on the terrace, in that fantastic setting, soak up the atmosphere and watch all the action on the water.

It was a fantastic and memorable experience.

I was at this hotel for 3 days and found it was beautiful inside and out and a great location. What amazed me the most was the incredible service, especially from Sinan Aydin, I was at the hotel on a work trip and he went out of his way to ensure everything went smoothly and that myself and our groups every need was catered for. I would strongly recommend staying here for business or pleasure!

Pros:
- excellent location;
- superb breakfast;
- excellent restaurants for a dinner for example Tugra restaurant;
- room service was great, including daily fresh juices and fruits

Cons:
- on the first day there is an issue with shower in one of 2 rooms we stayed in. This is unacceptable for a hotel like this not to check the operation order of the bathrooms before the guests check-in.
- overall décor is good but not great - a bit outdated
- TV remote was responding slowly
- choice of TV channels is unacceptable for such a hotel. It was a Champions League final one night and it was not on TV. We had to go to the bar to watch, which was not good either - too small screen in the bar.

Overall if you want to have an amazing time in Istanbul - this is the hotel to go for.

regards

Room Tip: this hotel is not very staying in unless you stay in a room with good views of the Bosphorus

Our first visit to this beautiful hotel And what an amazing location right on the Bosphorous watching all the ships and pleasure craft navigate these waters between two continents. It is fascinating lying in bed and watching huge cargo ships slip quietly by and at the same time listening to the early morning 'call to prayer' (for those who can't sleep!!!). The grounds are beautifully maintained and we found the service to be very good. We especially enjoyed the service, company and local knowledge shared to us by our lovely breakfast waiter, Ahmet Kenan. Thank you Ahmet you made a difference to our stay. We did feel however that the breakfast charge was rather ' over the top' and the lack of wifi in our room was less than satisfactory. I did not expect to have to go to the lobby for connection!!!! The room could do with a recover on the floor to get rid of the bumps in the carpet.
We loved the fascinating buzz of life in Istanbul.

What can I say that hasn't been said before? Incredible rooms, views, and a wonderful stay. I was particularly impressed by the service of the pool staff - compromised mostly of interns- our family is large and had one member who is old and has trouble walking. One intern especially who was fluent in French and Flemish was extremely accommodating and helped made out days at the pool a pleasant experience , making sure every member of our family was satisfied. I've been to many palaces and rarely have received such service from such young employees. I highly recommend this hotel and at least spending one day lounging by the Bosporus.
