“Luxury at its best, but there are also cons...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

All in all, great hotel at the impressive Ciragan Palace, excellent service, amazing view, and in my eyes the big highlight is the huge heated pool right at the Bosphorus, especially if you're there in winter as it was my case and you swim at night (open till 23:00). YET, if you just want a weekend to explore the city, it's a little bit far away from the must see things, e.g. Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque or Grand Bazaar. Your choice, but on this business trip I arrived a few days earlier to spend some time privately and stayed at the Eternity Boutique Hotel which has an impressive location, excellent view and it was half of the price and I think all in all a better choice. But if you like good breakfasts, the Kempinski has one of the better breakfasts I've ever had :)

Room Tip: See view if possible!

We have stayed in this hotel for two days after we finished our skiing trip in Uludag. We stayed in the deluxe besphore room, which has two large balcony’s windows facing the magnificent besphore. My experience in this hotel was superb. Once you enter the hotel you get greeted warmly by the staff and the front desk take care of your paper work while you are seated in the lobby.

The room is large in size. It has a large king size bed, a seating area with two couches and a sofa bed, and a study desk. Also it has a large cabinet, which can accommodate all of your stuff. The bathroom is large and spacious with two marble sinks and a good size bathtub.

The breakfast buffet offers excellent food with verity of fresh/tasty food to choose from.

Stayed here for 4 days recently for a company conference.

The setting of he hotel is great being on the Bosphorus giving a great view from my room. Every part of the hotel is high quality - the corridors, the shops and the bars all exude luxury.

My room was nicely laid out with a corridor leading to the main part of he bedroom with a comfortable super king bed. The room is classically furnished rather than modern and had a good desk, comfortable settee and a large flat screen TV.

The bathroom was on the small side but fine overall.

Most of the food we had in the hotel was buffet style for our conference so can't make too many relevant comments for a non conference stay other than it was all very good.

So overall a very good business or tourist hotel

Maybe it's just not to my taste. The rooms are done up quite ostentatiously....lots of heavy drapery, thick carpeting. It's over the top...and not easy to clean. Not the best environment if you have dust mite allergies. Even the bathtub had two layers of drapes.

If you like grand and chintzy, I guess it's for you. It really isn't allergy friendly. For those not forking out for a Boaphorus view, it's on the road leading towards Bebek and traffic noise can be a pain.

And it is tied to the palace, but unless you're staying in one of the super luxe suites, you would be in the modern building next door. Service is not exceptional.

Bosphorus view can't be faulted though. And breakfast is nice- smoothies, wide selection of cheeses, kaymak (clotted cream) with honey and the usual continental breakfast.

I went with my family and it was amazing! The view, the services, the staff was very polite. The rooms were very nice and clean! If you go to Constantinople, you should stay in this hotel, or at least go there for a swim in their swimming pool.Breakfast was also delicious, with a variety of things (bio, sushi, franch, american buffet). When I visit again Constantinople, I will visit this hotel again

We have visited the hotel on three occasions now and it is a proper 5 star hotel with all the bells and whistles you would expect. It is difficult to criticize anything, the rooms are comfortable, the restaurants very good, breakfasts are superb as are all teh support activities such as the excellent spa. The views of the Bosphorous are outstanding and the superlatives used by other reviewers are entirely correct.
However, the only thing that does make staying here a little tedious is its position vis a vis Istanbul. It is not in the town centre and a taxi journey to anywhere is needed in order to get somewhere. This is probably true of a lot of hotels but this hotel is on a very busy road which is often gridlocked and so getting to the airport for example can take 40 minutes on a good day and a lot longer on a bad day. Likewise getting to tourist attractions - you have a minimum 30 minute ride whereever you want to go which is not particularly expensive [as if you cared staying here] but is very time consuming. After a couple of days teh constant taxi rides became irritating and a bit hairy as Turkish taxi drivers really go for it. We clocked 110kmh on one built up road from the airport. Also, the choice of taxi seems to involve mostly small cars which is uncomfortable for an old person to get into and out of.
The hotel is clearly one of the great hotels of the world but it is not in the most convenient place for sightseeing.

Room Tip: Make sure you understand which room you are eating breakfast in - there is a whole world of price di...
