I spent two nights at the Hilton Istanbul over New Year and was extremely satisfied by the experience.

The hotel location is very marginally out of the way (around 10 minutes walk to Taksim and the Metro/Tram system) but this is a minor inconvenience. A taxi ride to and from the airport will run around 50 lira and takes 30-60 minutes depending on traffic.

The hotel property itself is very historic and one can spend a very enjoyable hour (as I did) just browsing through the wonderful photo displays in the lobby of the various celebrities, dignitaries and events that the hotel has hosted through the years. The hotel lobby was a complete zoo during the day with hundreds of tourists always checking in and out, but the Executive floors (where I had booked) had a separate check-in at the 9th floor Executive Lounge. The lounge itself had a view over the Bosphorus that would be hard to equal anywhere in the world. Truly magnificent. The lounge staff as well were fabulous, with the patience of saints as they dealt with all the special requests over New Years. The only complaint I have about the lounge was the uncouth behavior of some of the fellow guests and their inability to control their children, but sadly that is to be expected at any hotel lounge in the holiday season.

Breakfast was another zoo, with the Exec Lounge, the Bosphorus Terrace restaurant and the ballroom set up for overflow breakfast all packed to the rafters. I had to wait almost 30 minutes just to be seated at the Bosphorus Terrace, but the quality of the food and service were excellent and worth the wait.

The hotel rooms were typically Hilton - well appointed and comfortable with all the modern conveniences one expects. The balconies were a nice touch but unfortunately the weather was a bit too cold to use it.

One thing that constantly stood out from this visit though was the exceptional staff and their positive attitudes. They went out of their way to make their guests feel welcome, despite challenging circumstances, which is very hard to do at peak demand periods. The hotel management has done extremely well in selecting and training their staff.

Overall, I am very confident that I will use this hotel on future visits to Istanbul.

My partner and I had a very good two-night stay at this hotel. In fact, this is one of the better Hiltons I have stayed at.

The lobby area was a bit chaotic (stayed here during the New years weekend, they were fully booked), but the separate check-in at the 9th floor (at the entrance to the executive lounge) was fantastic.

The room: Had a lovely Bosphorous view room at the executive floor (8th floor). The room was large, with a great balcony. (However, it was too cold outside to take fully advantage of it. )

The executive lounge was very nice: Large, with a lot of tables. Four or five computers in one of the corners. Great selection of food and beverage, especially in the morning.

The restaurant: We had dinner at the new lebanese restaurant one night. The main courses were just average, but the meses were great. Ok prices.

The location: A bit isolated. A 10-15 min walk to Taksim, however we didnt find the square itself very attractive. Be prepared to take a taxi to see sights and other parts of the city.

Some minor negatives:

The beds were very firm/hard. Good for your back, I guess. But I must admit i had a hard time falling asleep the first night.

The lounge was full all day, people really knew how to take advantage of the free food/snack and drinks. Getting a table with a view was difficult, people seemed to hold on to the good tables for hours and hours.

Service at breakfast was slow and not very attentive. We had to seat ourselves both days, and it took ages getting coffee.

The first night, there must have been a malfunction with the hot water. No matter how long it was turned on, I couldn't get the water really hot. However, this problem did not occur the second day.

All in all a good hotel, especially if you either pay for or get upgraded to (as Diamond VIPs often do) the executive level with lounge access.

Many thanks for your kind feedback. We appreciate your valuable comments. Please note that we offer a softer bedding alternative upon request. I apologise for the inconvenience regarding getting a table with a view at Executive Lounge, we were truly busy at that time. I am also very sorry to note the breakfast service and hot water issue. I would like to inform you that all necessary precautions will be taken in order to prevent similar problems from reoccurring.
We will surely be very happy to welcome you back, assuring our best service and attention.

Stayed here as a last minute bargain from expedia
Was in a park view room, with a balcony there is a fantastic view of the bosphorous from the foyer
Very clean room, friendly staff very attentive
Breakfast had a huge variety from pancakes -salami-omlettes- fresh juices and cereal-very lush
The only slight disturbance, on one of our nights, we had was some very abnormally noisy neighbours, the walls are a bit thin, we spoke to reception who dealt with this matter swiftly and we never had any trouble again

Location is ok, the Bosporus view is great. The building itself is old and ugly but the interiour and the rooms are quite nice. We booked a room on the executive-floor with two beds. Since this was not available on arrival we were upgraded to a suite. Only setback was that our room was not in the main-building so we had to take another elevator and walk a little, actually we had only partial view of the Bosporus because this separate building is below the main-building. The room itself was very nice and we had access to the Executive Lounge which offers a fantastic view. The Spa Area was disappointing, way to small for a hotel this size. Since we got a very good rate there is not much to complain, if you look at the regular rate you will find much better alternatives in Istanbul.

I am currently staying at the Hilton Istanbul. I recommend it especially if you go for the Bosphorus view and the executive level. We have saved a lot with the full breakfast (no lunch necessary!) and the evening appetizers which can replace a dinner meal.

It is quite convenient to the major attractions. Just take the funiicular from the Taksin metro station (15 minute walk from the Hilton to metro station) to the Kabatas tramway, and the tram then goes directly to the Topkapi/Hagia Sofia area. At the funicular stop at Kabatas you can also get a ferry to the Asia side on a 1.75 hour trip up the Bosphorus.
You can walk from the Kabatas tram stop to the Dolhambache Palace in five minutes.
